Great Falls College MSU is developing an Academic Master Plan (AMP) that will guide future program development; enrollment and facilities planning; and budgeting and hiring decisions. The first step in developing an AMP is to gather information on the region's postsecondary education and training needs.

The community will have the opportunity to guide the future of the college.

Click here to take the Survey The survey will be available until May 17, 2013. All responses will remain confidential; only aggregated responses will be reported.

"By developing an academic master plan, we will be able to more effectively and efficiently fulfill the mission of the college," stated CEO Dean, Dr. Susan Wolff.  For more information or questions about the survey or the Academic Master Plan, please contact Lorene Jaynes, Executive Assistant to the CEO/Dean at 406-771-4305 or ljaynes@gfcmsu.edu

Double Click Event

Submitted by Rhonda Kueffler, Web and Graphic Design Program Director

Nine design students from the Graphic and Web Design Programs and twenty technology students from the Microcomputer Support and Networking programs showed off their work at the Double Click Event: Design and Technology Student Showcase on April 22 and 23.

This event is the final requirement of the ITS 299 Capstone/Internship course. the course focuses on what students have learned in their previous classes and allows them to demonstrate their capabilities in preparation for the workforce.

Design students set up their portfolios of work in preparation to network with design professionals from the community on the first day of the event. Designers and developers from local advertising and marketing firms were excited and inspired to see these budding "New Creatives," ready to take on the challenges of the profession.

Tech students jumped into gear on day 2 and set up their booths, preparing to educate the campus community about Internet Security and Safety. Design students helped with printed and marketing material as the Techs captivated those in attendance with their invigorated communication and knowledge of their Internet Safety topics.

In all, the two events were a great success, giving our students a feel for the needs and expectations of the technology and design communities in and around Great Falls.

Scottsbluff Prehistory

Dr. Ruthann Knudson, who teaches Montana Indians as an online course for Great Falls College MSU, has just published a new paper, "The Scottsbluff Bison Quarry Site: Its Place in the Cody Complex."

The Scottsbluff Quarry site in western Nebraska, near the city of that name on the North Platte River, is the remnant of the killing and butchering of ancient buffalo around 10,000 years ago. At that time people killed a small herd of 26 cows, bulls, and calves during the summer, and left behind the bones and eight stone tools made of local rock. Four of the tools were probably spear points, and reflect ties to the Medicine Creek Valley in southwestern Nebraska as well as to Wyoming sites to the northwest. The other four tools are small cutting and scraping tools, used in everyday living. Since the 1930s this artifact collection has been used as a design template ("Scottsbluff" form) for Plains spear points from Alberta to Texas. The site may reflect a seasonal gathering of up to 100 people, collecting to kill the herd while they also socialized and exchanged information about landscapes and resources in their world.

The paper is in Paleoindian Lifeways of the Cody Complex, edited by Edward J. Knell and Mark P. Muņiz and published by the University of Utah Press.
