Native American Enrichment Center
On Friday February 22, Great Falls College MSU celebrated the opening of the Issksiniip Native American Enrichment Center. The event began with a traditional Blackfeet honor song and prayer followed by speakers from Great Falls College MSU, the Blackfeet Community College Issksiniip team, an GFC MSU Issksiniip scholarship recipient and the Blackfeet Tribal Chairman.
Richard Alton, GFC Student and Issksiniip Scholarship Recipient expressed his gratitude by saying: "I don't know if I can adequately describe what a blessing this scholarship has been to me. I work about 24 hours a week to sustain my life, but without the scholarship I would have had to work so much more that I really don't think I could have gotten through my classes. Becoming a nurse means a lot to me, and I really look forward to being able to give back to the community. This scholarship has been a really key factor in me being able to do that."
Following the presentations, a smudge ceremony was held to cleanse, purify and bless the new Issksiniip Native Enrichment Center. This ceremony was led by Don Fish, GFC MSU Adjunct Faculty and Blackfeet Tribal Member.
