eLearning and Institutional Research are co-sponsoring this survey.  If you're an online student this fall, please look for the invitation to participate in your email inbox.  You'll need the unique passcode in that email to participate in this survey.

Honoring Our Veterans & Military

Student Central is collecting unused holiday greeting cards for The Holiday Mail for Heroes Program.  During "Honoring Veterans & Military  Week," November 13-16, students and staff will have the opportunity to sign the cards, which will ultimately be sent to active duty military and veterans. Other activities to honor veterans and military include a graffiti wall, hospitality room, and recognition of staff/faculty who are veterans, military or spouses.

GFC Faculty & Staff: Are you a veteran?  Military member?  Spouse of a veteran or military member?  The college recognizes these individuals during Veteran's Week.   Please email Julie Freshly at julie.freshly@msugf.edu with your "military connection"!

Can the Cats / Can the Griz Competition

Starting Friday, November 9th, around 8am, boxes will be placed in front of the help desks and Learning Center. Fans will place non-perishable food items into their team's corresponding box, i.e, MSU Bobcat fans will place food in the Gold/Blue box that says "MSU Bobcats" and UM Griz fans will place their food in the Maroon and Silver "UM Griz" box.  At the end of every day, the food will be weighed and the score for the day will be displayed next to the boxes and sent through email updates. The score is determined by weight, so, the heavier the box, the higher the score. The competition ends on the 16th.

Steve Beck - Going to the Next Level

Steve Beck, a wonderfully motivating speaker, visited Great Falls once again this year with one of his amazing seminars sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. He came back to do Customer Service Part II training. A majority of our staff from Student Central, Community Relations, and Administration attended. He touched on different personality types people are and how to handle them in a professional way. He will be coming back next year to do Customer Service Part III training if you missed Part II.

CREATIVE eLearning & Library Folks

Steam Punk

Ever hear of Steam Punk?  Leave it to our creative eLearning and Library Services folks to teach us a thing or two while we are having fun!

From Wikipedia:  Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction that typically features steam-powered machinery, especially in a setting inspired by industrialized Western civilization during the 19th century, or a post apocalyptic environment. Therefore, steampunk works are often set in an alternate history of the 19th century's British Victorian era or American "Wild West," in a post-apocalyptic future during which steam power has regained mainstream usage, or in a fantasy world that similarly employs steam power.

Such technology may include fictional machines like those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne, or the modern authors Philip Pullman, Scott Westerfeld, and China Mieville. Other examples of steampunk contain alternate history-style presentations of such technology as lighter-than-air airships, analog computers, or such digital mechanical computers as Charles Babbage and Ada Lovelace's Analytical Engine.
