Stay Cool!
| |
Summertime means tons of great concerts at The Pavilion, but it also means heat and humidity outside. Here are some great tips to make sure that you avoid getting overheated:
· Drink lots of water throughout the day. · Avoid caffeinated drinks like soda, tea or alcohol (they can dehydrate you.) · Avoid being outside during the hottest times of the day if you can. · The House of Blues Tent is open one hour pre- and post-show at most concerts. Enjoy food and drinks in the air-conditioned tent. · Try to rest in the shade and wear sunscreen, light clothing, hats and sunglasses to keep cool. · Never leave seniors, children or pets alone in a car. · At many concerts and all performing arts events at The Pavilion, you are allowed to bring an empty water bottle. Fill yours up at our water fountains!

School of Rock - The Woodlands Teaches to a Different Beat
by Stanica Matijevich
|
"And we shall teach rock n' roll to the world," a line from the famous movie "School of Rock," said by Jack Blacks character Dewey Finn. Though the movie was meant to be a fun pastime, School of Rock- The Woodlands has a different approach. Founded in 1998 in Philadelphia, Pa. the owners believe the best way to learn music is to play music. When Marc Reczek, general manager and music director of the School of Rock- The Woodlands, left his job in the financial world he was looking to change his life. He looked for work teaching guitar lessons and soon fell in love with the School of Rock and its mission. The School of Rock is an afterschool program that feels more like a second home because of Reczek's passion for helping the students succeed. "My goal was to create every room to feel like the room that the parents won't let them keep. It's a place where every type of kid has a place to belong. We have to kick kids out after their lessons because they would rather hang out and play music," said Reczek. The School of Rock has three programs including Rock 101, artist development and performance program that involve private lessons and band lessons. Private lessons ensure that students are able to advance in their own personal musical journey. The programs with team dynamics teach the students to work together, resolve conflicts and develop leadership abilities. "What really resonates with the parents is that School of Rock teaches kids how to be successful in life. We teach how to be self motivated, to set a goal then achieve the goal," said Reczek. The School of Rock had two groups perform at Texas Music Festival on June 14, Dean's List and Honor Roll. They also helped interested Boy Scouts earn their Music Merit badge by performing selections that meet the criteria for the badge.
