Classical Music's Rising Stars from Around the World Perform at Free Pavilion Concert

This summer at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, more than 100 gifted musicians from around the world are showcased in a free concert. In conjunction with the Immanuel and Helen Olshan Texas Music Festival, an intensive four-week study program at the University of Houston's Moores School of Music, the Texas Music Festival Orchestra takes the stage June 14 for Legendary Masterpieces. Tickets are not required. Gates open at 7 p.m. The Pavilion is welcoming the Boys Scouts of America at Texas Music Festival Orchestra where they can complete their Music Merit Badge. Activities they can visit are The Pavilion P artners Instrument Petting Zoo with different types of musical instruments and P artners Arts & Crafts booth to make a musical instrument and learn about important people in American music. At Legendary Masterpieces guests can rock out to the sounds of The School of Rock The Woodlands performing on the Side Stage in the North Plaza from 7:15-7:45 p.m. School of Rock has two groups performing, Dean's List and Honor Roll. Stop by the Side Stage to enter a drawing for a chance to win two full month scholarships, 20 percent off a month's enrollment and more with School of Rock. Other plaza activities starting at 7 p.m. are with Fidelity Investments, Woodforest National Bank, Century 21 Realty Partners, Renewal by Andersen and Audi of America, official automobile of The Pavilion. Get insight into the evening's program with Pavilion Talk, a free pre-concert discussion led by noted music scholar and former college professor Ira J. Black from 7:15-7:45 p.m. The first 500 guests to enter the gates receive a free T-shirt as a souvenir!

Houston...We have a Concert!

For an out-of-this-world concert experience, journey to The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion for The Earth - An HD Odyssey with the Houston Symphony June 15. This event is a special encore performance of the second film in the HD Odyssey series that showcases our planet. Tickets are $15 for orchestra seating. Mezzanine and lawn seating are free. Tickets are not required for free seating. Gates open at 7 p.m. Under the direction of Mein-Ann Chen, The Earth - An HD Odyssey features the Houston Symphony and striking images taken from NASA missions to Earth's orbit on a 24 foot screen above the symphony, accompanied by J. Adams "Short Ride in a Fast Machine," Richard Strauss' epic tone poem "Also sprach Zarathustra" and other works. Before your voyage through space begins, make a stop in the North Plaza at 7 p.m. for pre-concert activities. Visit unique exhibits from Johnson Space Center including an Apollo EMU Spacesuit, a shuttle extravehicular activity glove, a space  food tray, a shuttle launch helmet and more. Ever wanted to try real space food? The first 200 guests to visit the NASA exhibits get an Astronaut Ice Cream Sandwich, a freeze-dried vanilla ice cream between two chocolate wafers. Enjoy right from the package. Explore the music of "The Earth" at Pavilion Talk, a free pre-concert discussion led by noted music scholar Ira Black that provides insight into the evening's program. Pavilion Talk takes place from 7:15-7:45 p.m. Your journey doesn't end there. The event takes place in the House of Blues Hospitality Tent prior to the Keith Urban concert. Tickets are $200 per person. Proceeds of the event benefit The Pavilion's performing arts events and educational outreach programs.
