You are cordially invited to join us on the red carpet at the Hotel Shattuck Plaza in downtown Berkeley to watch the Academy Awards live telecast. Stephane Tonnelier, executive chef of FIVE restaurant is preparing the delectable cuisine with specialty chosen wine. Doors open at 4 pm for the Red Carpet telecast, ceremony begins at 5 pm. Arrive in black tie, blue jeans, or ball gowns.

The Black History Celebration program theme is Kiamsha: The Awakening. The event headliner is Linda Tillery and The Cultural Heritage Choir, a Grammy nominated, percussion driven, vocal ensemble whose mission is to preserve and share the rich musical traditions of African American roots music. San Francisco Conservatory of Music-trained Othello Jefferson will perform, as well as Diamano Coura West African Dance Company, and the BHS African Dance Group. Other performances include a short play Code Black: A Silverstone Bay Story about a town under siege by evil forces hell bent on taking over by any means necessary. Sister's Keeper and James Daley round out the performers.


 

The Black Inventions Display will present over twenty inventions, and use photos, props, video, and essays to teach children about the contributions of Black American inventors. Craft booths and food will also be available at the event.
