Open Streets are coming back to Berkeley this weekend! Join tens of thousands of fellow Berkeleyans as we walk, bike, skate, discover, dance, and play along a car-free Shattuck Ave. from Haste to Rose on Sunday, October 12th from 11am-5pm. This year's Sunday Streets Berkeley route will have blocks with themed activities, such as: Sustainable Transportation, Martial Arts, Arts & Innovation, Pets & Plants and more! There will also be a variety of everyone's favorite activities (yoga, hula hoops, kids games, live music and performances, bike activities, etc.) sprinkled throughout the route.
Program Highlights:
- Rock the Bike pedal-powered stage with live bands 11:00 AM to 4:30 PM (Shattuck Ave near Rose at the north hub of the route)
- Giant chess games by Berkeley Chess School (near Cedar)
- Bejeweled Pumpkin carving by M. Lowe and Co. and PEACE Out Loud;
- Create-With-Nature Zone with Zach Pine hosted by ACCI Gallery, Eden Arts (near Virginia)
- Yoga and Pilates classes, live Yogi music by Yoga Kula (Virginia - Francisco)
- "Shooting for Sustainability"(aka Plastic-Free non-alcoholic beverage pong) and "Health Awareness Jeopardy" by the Ecology Center (Francisco-Delaware)
- Free bike tune ups by Missing Link
- Belly dancing performances and Turkish music by BlueDiamond Belly Dance and Troupe Tangiers (Berkeley - University)
- Arts & Innovation block: 3-D printing demos by Soundfit, Morelab, hands on science activities by Science@Cal, plus Noodles, the Endangered Desert Tortoise (East Shattuck from University - Center)
- Hip Hop Dance PERFORMANCES hosted by Orlando Williams (aka) Dj O Aces and B-Side Cipher, live hip hop bands and beatmakers (BART Plaza at Center)
- Skateboard park, Tai Chi, activities for youth, toddlers to Seniors by Berkeley Parks & Recreation Department (Allston-Kittrege)
- Berkeley Library animal petting zoo with Little Farm, "Library On Wheels" bikes equipped with a mobile hotspot (at Kitterage)
- Ralph Grace Jiu Jitsu, Crossbone FMA/Esdabo Daan, Filhos de Bimba Capoeira Bay Area (Bancroft -Durant)
- Family Fun Zone anchored by Sports Basement- fun activities for kids of all ages - Yoga, balloons and face-painting, live music by youth jazz ensemble The Minor Seven (at Haste, the southern route hub)
