Wednesday, March 19 | 4:00 - 6:00 pm
3rd Floor Community Meeting Room, Berkeley Central Library | 2090 Kittredge St. | FREE

To improve availability, the City is considering evening rates 6-8pm, increasing rates during the day, and in the Center St. and Oxford St. garages.

This afternoon, please join the goBerkeley team for the results of the Fall 2013 parking rate and time limit adjustments and recommendations of adjustments to further improve access to Downtown Berkeley and the Telegraph Southside Area.

At these meetings, the public will review how the pilot has performed since Fall 2013 and discuss staff recommendations for next steps.  Staff have compiled data on parking demand and turnover at metered spaces on-street, as well as City parking lots and garages.  Over 500 visitors were surveyed about their parking preferences and opinions.

Results show that the changes to parking rates and time limits are very effective in encouraging drivers to make different choices about where they drive and park.  While many areas show major success, there are opportunities to improve..  The goBerkeley project only affected street parking during meter hours, 9am to 6pm. However, parking turnover declines after 6pm, when meters stop, yet it is a high-demand time for many businesses. Because of this, staff are exploring options for evening parking and the benefits for evening businesses.

The goBerkeley team will focus on the Downtown and Southside Berkeley area during the Wednesday March 19th meeting and the Elmwood during the March 20th meeting. Both meetings will include a short presentation followed by staff-led small group discussions.
