What happens when the people you revere aren't who you think they are? Recent law school graduate Emma Joseph proudly carries the torch of her family's Marxist tradition by running a nonprofit organization dedicated to the memory of her blacklisted grandfather. But when a newly published book reveals shocking truths about the man, the entire family is forced to confront questions of honesty and allegiance they thought long ago resolved. Playright Amy Herzog won the New York Time's Outstanding Playwright Award for After the Revolution.

David Brower Center | 2150 Allston Way | Runs through Jan. 29
Every autumn, the Brower Center presents the Art/Act Exhibition, an award presented to an artist who has demonstrated extraordinary achievement at the convergence of art and activism. This year, we honor celebrated photographer Richard Misrach. Based on the book Petrochemical America (Aperture 2012), the exhibit highlights the unique collaboration between Misrach and landscape architect Kate Orff/SCAPE. Presented in an open studio format, this project brings into focus the complex economic and ecological forces that have shaped the industrial landscapes of the Mississippi River's "Cancer Alley," mapping cycles of resource extraction and transformation from a local to a global scale.

Streets Alive!, an initiative of the Earth Island Institute, works to restore urban areas through public art. By partnering with local artists, governments, businesses and organizations, we are bringing more life and vibrancy to our public spaces.
With financial support from sponsors, Streets Alive! commissions local artists to create artwork that specifically communicates themes of sustainability, education anddiversity. We have worked with dozens of artists and sponsors to install art on utility boxes in Downtown Berkeley and are expanding into North Berkeley, South Berkeley, Solano Avenue and the San Pablo Corridor in Berkeley!
