Join Mayor Tom Bates, the Berkeley Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Berkeley Association in welcoming NextSpace to Downtown Berkeley with a ribbon cutting ceremony and party! Build Pizzeria will be sponsoring a grand pizza feast, and the East Bay cooking collective, Raise the Root, will be serving up their first place chili they made at the 2013 SF Bay Chili Cook-Off. And if that isn't enough, there will be a bag toss (or as we call it, corn hole) competition for you to get involved in and a pinball machine. So find a teammate and come join us for some tasty food and fun times! Doors open at noon, ribbon cutting at 1:00 pm.

Join us for our inaugural Berkeley Spark event ~ Ignite Your Spark! ~ as we share our extraordinary plans to transform downtown Berkeley's Civic Center Park into a place where we weave local communities together, the Playa culture and the diverse strands of our local community and Berkeley's surrounding neighbors, where the spirit of collaboration and creativity is embraced.

See how you might get involved while meeting like-minded people and enjoying one of downtown Berkeley's newest and hippest East Bay venues.

Berkeley Spark will also be hosting a day-long festival on August 10, 2013 in Berkeley's Civic Center Park with art, music, performance, dance, and workshops.  This event is led by an organizing committee of local burners and artful East Bay visionaries.

In George Gershwin Alone, the irresistible music of America's favorite composer comes alive-along with exciting insights into his brief and brilliant life. Hershey Felder brings his hit show to Berkeley Rep after successful runs on Broadway, in London's West End and in cities across the country. An accomplished pianist and performer, Felder was given full access to the Gershwin archives to create this tribute to the genius behind Rhapsody in Blue and Porgy and Bess. George Gershwin wrote hundreds of timeless tunes such as "I Got Rhythm," "Summertime" and "They Can't Take That Away from Me." See George Gershwin Alone, and be captivated by the man and his music.
