Downtown Berkeley Holiday Tree Lighting Celebration

Come celebrate the start of the holiday season at the Downtown Berkeley Tree Lighting in BART Plaza on Friday, November 30th, 5:30-6:30pm with family-friendly festivities! Enjoy cookies and hot chocolate, listen to holiday music sung by UC Berkeley a capella groups, and join the Mayor in lighting the holiday tree in the heart of Downtown Berkeley. There will even be a visit from Santa Claus, so bring a camera to take a picture with the whole family!

Art in Science

When the realms of art and science intersect, what emerges? View original, stunning and astonishing images of scientific investigation and meet the scientists who created them. Spanning two spacious gallery rooms, images and interpretations of research and discovery will be presented through photography, video, painting, sculpture, conversation and demonstrations. Browse the exhibits, chat with Cal scientists and special guests, enjoy live music and refreshments! The Gala is part of the 2012 Bay Area Science Festival, a weeklong Bay-Area-wide celebration of the unique science and technology of the region.

The Freight throws open its doors for a jam-packed day of learning, listening, & playing during the fourth annual Family Open House.  For a special treat, our Patchwork Series of kids' concerts kicks off the Open House with fabulous, fun, and free performances!  Rudy Trubitt (of the Sippy Cups) and Melita Doostan (of Octopretzel) hos performances by the Fratello Marionettes and the beloved Trinidad-born musical storyteller, Asheba.  Also on the menu are an instrument petting zoo, hands-on crafty goodness from Sticky Art Labs, jams galore (bluegrass, blues, and celtic), and fabulous "sneak prevue" classes from the Freight's great teachers.
