Dear Brothers,

We were pleased to welcome a diverse crowd of 125 Marianist Family members for the dedication of the new Chaminade Center at Mount Saint John last Sunday.

The center houses the North American Center for Marianist Studies and the Madeleine Room, a gathering space for Marianist Family events.

Fr. Marty Solma led the dedication ceremony. Carol Ramey, director of NACMS, offered an introduction to the history and mission of the organization. Sr. Angela Ann Zukowski, MHSH, director of the Institute for Pastoral Initiatives at the University of Dayton, spoke on "The Art of Being Human in a Digital Culture."

Bros. Bob Hughes and Kumaraswamy, Fr. Marty Solma, Bro. Jean Doussous, Fr. Tom Schroer and Bro. Dan Klco were among those attending the dedication of the new Chaminade Center.

It was a happy afternoon. Thanks to those brothers who were able to join us for the event.

See this week's issue of FamilyOnline for a link to more photos from the event.

Fraternally,

From Bro. Ron Overman

Dear Brothers:

Insurance concerns

I met recently with our risk control adviser from Christian Brothers insurance. We reviewed our claims experience for the past five years. During that time, we had 290 claims for auto, property, liability and workers comp.

Of the 290 claims, 215 were caused by auto accidents. Auto accidents represent 60 percent of the total claim cost during the period.

Starting in 2017, Christian Brothers will require all drivers to attend a defensive driving class every two to three years. Drivers may complete the course online, or it can be done on site for locations with 10 or more drivers. I'll provide you with more information about this later this year.

For every driver who completes the course, the Province will receive a $50 credit toward the cost of our auto coverage.

Christian Brothers will again test members reaching the age of 75 this year.
