My Dear Brothers:
Earlier this week, you received a reminder from me about retreat registration. Note that the deadline is March 18.
If you plan to make a retreat other than a Province retreat, please note that in this electronic registration. Thank you. Capuchin Fr. David Songy, who will preach the 2016 Marianist retreat at the Marianist Retreat Center, was commissioned in a Vatican celebration by Pope Francis as a "Missionary of Mercy" for this Jubilee Year of Mercy. He recently was interviewed by Catholic News Service about this role. Watch the interview. What are you reading for Lent?
Two must-reads for this Lent are: The Name of God is Mercy by Pope Francis Simply and intimately, the Pope addresses all humanity in an intimate and personal dialogue with Andrea Tornielli (a veteran Vatican reporter) about a subject close to his heart -- mercy -- which has long been the cornerstone of his faith, and is now the central teaching of his papacy. So much more than a quick inspiring read; I found this opportunity to open myself more deeply to God's unconditional love and mercy.
The Identity and Mission of the Religious Brother in the Church
Still no word from the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops on when it will be publishing its edition, but you can read and download the Vatican Document here.![](http://files.ctctcdn.com/68a92449001/8630f25d-60fb-44fc-9707-66cad1869ebf.jpg?a=1123842366743)

A Fresh Look at the CMEs
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the promulgation of the Characteristics of Marianist Education.
The CMEs have informed and guided Marianist pedagogy in many countries. However, to be true to one of the characteristics -- "adaptation and change" -- we need to interpret them over time.
In this article, Fr. Jim Heft offers insightful reflections to stimulate conversation on the CMEs today. The CMEs remain the same, but implementing them in an age of globalized social media and serious interreligious dialogue provides new challenges for educators of inculturation in the 21st Century.
Jim's article could be useful for community conversations, Mission Integration Teams, faculty and staff discussions and board conversations. If you have comments or wish to continue the conversation, please contact Jim or me.
Bro. Gene MeyerpeterI want to voice my appreciation for the life of Bro. Gene Meyerpeter, who not only spent many years as a Marianist educator, but more specifically for the years he ministered directly in the Province Office of Education and recently in the Office of Sponsorship.
He was persistent in his focus on Marianist educational principles and innovative ways to implement them. Thank you, Gene. We will miss you.
