Provincial Council Meetings
San Antonio

From Fr. Marty Solma

Dear Brothers:

The Provincial Council is meeting this week in San Antonio. Three council members will participate in the board of trustees retreat and meeting at St. Mary's University, and our own council meeting with follow that. Fr. Bill Meyer will preside at the Mass of Transferal for Bro. Gene Meyerpeter on Friday afternoon at the Marianist Residence. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place in St. Louis on the afternoon of Wednesday, Feb. 17, with burial at the Maryhurst cemetery at St. John Vianney High School. We bid a fraternal farewell to a wonderful Marianist religious and educator.

An interesting story from Bro. Jack Somerville: "We thank Belle Vault & Monument Inc. for an economical, elegant base for the Madonna and child statue in the Bergamo lobby in Dayton. This statue originally stood at the Marianist brothers' residence at St. Joseph High School in Cleveland. The statue was later moved to the brothers' residence at Marcella. When that was sold, the statue came to St. Aloysius Parish in Cleveland, and now it graces the Bergamo Center."

As we begin this season of Lent, each of you will be in my daily prayers.  May this be a graced time for each of us and for our Province.

Fraternally,

My Dear Brothers:

Consultation on perpetual vows

Bros. Michael Chiuri and Brandon Paluch are requesting perpetual vows in the Society of Mary with a clerical orientation. All perpetually professed brothers of the Society of Mary who have lived with Michael or Brandon in the last three years are being formally consulted. Perpetually professed Province members may offer feedback to the consultation process. Please email your consultation to me no later than Feb. 29. Their bios are below.

Dear Brothers:

Bro. Francisco: 25 years as
leader of Colegio San Jos

On Feb. 5, 2016, Fr. Marty Solma, Bro. Steve Glodek and I celebrated with the Colegio San Jos community a Mass of Thanksgiving honoring Bro. Francisco Gonzlez. About 600 students, faculty, staff and parents joined in song and laudatory speeches at the school's auditorium to mark the occasion. Fr. Don Wallace presided and Fr. Marty was the homilist at the Eucharist.

Fr. Marty, Bros. Stephen, Francisco and Tom

In 1991, Bro. Frankie (an alum of CSJ) was asked to assume the leadership of the school for one year ... and the rest is history! During that history he accelerated the enhancement of the Catholic and Marianist identity, the academics, the sports and the facilities in a solid and steady manner. Please join me in thanking God and Bro. Francisco for this witness of apostolic availability and faith-filled Marianist education.

Fraternally,

Dear Brothers:

Office of JPIC

This Lent, the Ignatian Solidarity Network will offer a daily Lenten reflection as part of a series entitled "Lift Every Voice," which will encourage participants to journey toward racial justice through the light of the Gospel. "Lift Every Voice" will draw upon Ignatian spirituality and the daily readings. The series will harness voices across the Ignatian network to lament racial injustice and reflect on how the Gospel calls us to repent, pray and act in solidarity with those affected by an enduring legacy of systemic and personal racial discrimination.

Homily Helps

The following reflections are provided by the Conference of Major Superiors of Men and others offering insights and connections with justice and peace to the lectionary.

Special thanks to Bro. Jim Maus (Maryland Avenue) for participating in our recent corporate dialogue with Peabody Energy in St. Louis. Jim prepared helpful research and presented questions to aid our continued efforts for cleaner water and socially responsible investing advocacy and awareness.
