Dear Brothers:

Province assembly 2018

During our recent Provincial Council meeting, we reviewed the report from the Province Retreat Assembly Committee. The report and the recommendations for the future were well done and much appreciated. We are, again, indebted to the committee and the co-chairs for their fine service to the Province.

It was the clear recommendation of the committee that a decision be made now about a possible Province Assembly in 2018 to coincide with the transition to new leadership. The Provincial Council considered this at length, weighing the benefits with other considerations. We thought that having an assembly in 2018 would encourage both the Province membership and the new leaders, and serve as a way to mark a new chapter in the life of the Province.

We have tentatively set June 28 - July 1, 2018, in St. Louis for the assembly. As we develop this, additional information will be shared. You might want to mark you calendars.

This week we bid farewell to one of the great Province educators. May Bro. Leo Willett enjoy the peace and union with Christ and Mary that his whole life witnessed.

My Dear Brothers:

Annual Formation Weekend well received

The newest members of the Province of the United States, the Province of Meribah and the Daughters of Mary gathered at Bergamo Center at Mount Saint John in Dayton this past weekend to attend the Formation Weekend: "How Do We Keep Our Jars Filled?" Picking up on the theme of last summer's Retreat Assembly, "Fill the Jars," young Marianists listened and responded to Fr. Quentin Hakenewerth, Fr. Steve Tutas and Sr. Estella Ibarra share their reflections on the perseverance, happiness and fruitfulness of vowed Marianist life. The weekend, facilitated by Bro. Bill Campbell, was filled with lively exchanges. Read the personal reflections of Bros. Jos Julin Matos-Auffant and Allen Pacquing.

Blessing and dedication of new Marianist novitiate

On Friday afternoon, Nov. 13, about 70 Marianists gathered for the blessing and dedication of the new Marianist novitiate at Mount Saint John. This joy-filled Rite of Blessing, set in the context of the Eucharist, marked an important moment in the history of the Province of the United States, acknowledging the importance of our lifelong formation as consecrated Marianist religious.

As we are all still stunned by the recent acts of terrorism in Paris, we join our hearts in prayer to all who have been directly affected, and we pray for healing and peace.

With fraternal affection,

Dear Brothers:

Brother Ed

I am happy to announce that Bro. Ed Brink has been appointed rector of Chaminade University of Honolulu, effective July 1, 2016. Congratulations, Ed!

Current rector Fr. George Cerniglia
will continue to serve as university chaplain, as a member of the campus ministry team and as Province area coordinator for Hawai'i.

From 2007 to 2015, Ed acted as assistant for education on the Provincial Council, while also serving CUH as a regent. His years on the Provincial Council included the introduction of the Office of Sponsorship, where his support was invaluable. He also brought much wisdom and leadership in guiding our sponsored ministries throughout the Province.

"Bro. Ed has served the Province in many important ways," said Fr. Marty Solma, provincial. "He will bring his characteristic professionalism and religious spirit to this new service as rector at Chaminade University, and will build on the solid foundations that have been set for this key Marianist role. We wish him our prayers and support."

Ed received a master's degree in private school administration from the University of San Francisco and received his Ohio teaching certificate from the University of Dayton.

Ed will visit Chaminade University in January. Read the full news release from CUH regarding Ed's appointment.

Fraternally,

Dear Brothers:

From the Office of JPIC

Global Catholic Climate Movement

More than 500,000 have signed on to the Global Catholic Climate Movement, the petition that 95 percent of our 190 brothers who participated signed several months ago. Follow the COP21 conference via their website, and on Nov. 29 there will be local and global climate marches. You also can pray for COP21 by joining the prayer chain

Conversations

Are you interested in ongoing conversations about the environment, integrity of creation, and climate change? Bro. Jim Facette (Dayton) feels we must have more serious conversations on these topics, especially with the pope's latest encyclical and upcoming COP21 Climate Change Conference in Paris. If interested, contact Brian Reavey and they will coordinate a conversation with interested brothers.
