Dear Brothers:

Earlier this week, you received a letter from the Provincial Council outlining our thinking for the next three years and requesting your reflections and recommendations. Today, the community directors will receive a response form with specific questions. The directors are asked to convene a community conversation and bring its results to the Directors Meeting in October. Many thanks to all involved in helping us formulate clear goals for our shared future.

Bicentenaries

As you know, the Superiors General of the Society of Mary and the Daughters of Mary Immaculate have communicated their plans for a joint celebration of our bicentenaries in 2016 and 2017. Together with Sr. Evangeline Escobar, we've formed a Bicentenary Committee and formulated a mandate for the commemoration.

I am grateful to those who agreed to serve on this important committee. Here is a list of committee members, along with specific directions for their work. More about this will be coming as the committee begins its meetings.

Fraternally,

"Cherish All of Creation"

As reported earlier, the Conference of Major Superiors of Men overwhelmingly passed a resolution, "Cherish All of Creation," at its national assembly last month.

With this act, CMSM commits to a deeper engagement on this issue and to transforming practices in their communities. The same CMSM resolution received 95 percent support from 100 Marianist brothers who filled out the survey several weeks ago.

You recently received a letter from Fr. Marty and the Provincial Council regarding four areas of focus for the next three years. "Active commitment to the integrity of creation" is one of those areas, and the CMSM resolution is one example of a way individuals and communities can respond.

We look forward to your concrete ideas and recommendations for ways to live out this resolution or other areas that Pope Francis speaks of in his encyclical, "On Care for our Common Home."

Fr. Marty has asked that you send individual or community suggestions to Bro. Joe Kamis. I ask that you send responses on this topic to me as well, so that I can prepare a report for the Directors Meeting. I'll share responses with the wider Province membership soon after. Thank you for your participation.

In justice and peace,
