Dear Brothers:
We have begun the second week of the General Leadership Assembly. After the reports of the first week, we had a day of input and retreat, directed by Fr. David Kinnear Glenday, former superior general of the Comboni Missionaries and now secretary general of the Union of Superiors General. He gave a stimulating presentation about religious life today, Pope Francis, and the challenge of the contemporary world. After a free day on Sunday, we began the second week with meetings of the zonal conferences.
Major decisions this week include the GA proposal on restructuring the zones, a slight alteration in how units financially support the work of the General Administration, and an important proposal on the Marianist identity of apostolic works that will go to the next General Chapter.
The atmosphere of the assembly has been fraternal, collaborative and engaging. The nightly supper (cena) on the rooftop patio of the GA has been enjoyable. Bro. Joe Kamis and I will return to the United States July 20, and the first meeting of the new Provincial Council will take place at the end of next week.
Chaminade Center
Below are photos of the new Chaminade Center on the campus of Mount Saint John, a facility that will house NACMS and a Marianist Family Center. The estimated completion is early December.
