Provincial Council

June 18 - 20

From Fr. Marty Solma

Dear Brothers:

In two weeks, we will gather for the Province Retreat Assembly. More than 230 Province members have registered to attend. We are very pleased with this response, and our time together promises to be both fraternal and encouraging. Thanks to the Retreat Assembly Committee for its hard work over recent months. Let's continue to pray for a blessed time together.

Welcome to Bros. Steve Grazulis and Tim Phillips from Eastern Africa and Bro. Larry McBride from the District of India who are visiting the Province and their families over the coming weeks. These brothers will attend the Retreat Assembly. I have heard from many brothers in the healthcare facilities who will not be able to attend the Retreat Assembly. They have promised to pray for us. Let's remember to pray for them.

Ireland

Over the past two years, the Provincial Council has been in dialogue with the brothers in Ireland about the future management of St. Laurence College and the future of the house at St. Columba's. They heard this week that an attractive bid has been placed on the St. Columba's property and our bid on a smaller residence on Killiney Hill (pictured) has been accepted. All of this happened on the feast of St. Columba! The brothers have been given the okay to pursue both transactions, which must now follow the normal finalization process in Ireland. The brothers from Ireland will be with us for the Retreat Assembly, and I'm sure they will update us.

Fraternally,

Dear Brothers:

For those who are looking for a short summer course, IMRI has announced a Special Course on Marianist Topics: "A Religious Charism Centered in Mary: Evolution through 200 Years." The course is at IMRI in Dayton July 13-17, 2 - 4 p.m., taught by Fr. Dave Fleming.

Contact Fr. Dave regarding registration. Read an outline of the week's lecture.

With fraternal affection,

From Bro. Ed Brink

Dear Brothers:

Dr. Steve Neiheisel has been chosen as the next executive director of the Association of Marianist Universities (AMU). Steve served on the faculty of St. Mary's University from 1990-2013. He then became the founding director of the Non Profit and Community Leadership Program at the University of  Dayton. He will continue to direct that program and will do some teaching, but 75 percent of his time will be devoted to AMU. We thank Steve for his willingness to serve in this capacity and promise him our continued prayers.

Job opening

The University of Dayton has a full time position open in the Office for Mission and Rector. The coordinator of Marianist activities and scholarship is an essential partner in the integration of the mission at the university. This position works closely with students and professionals on campus. If you know of anyone who might be interested, please refer them to the following website:

Dear Brothers:

Friendly Reminder: Catholic Climate Mailing

Your community received a mailing from me several weeks ago addressed to each community director, which includes materials for individual brothers. The mailing concerns the integrity of creation, and a timely advocacy opportunity for all of us.

The "Global Catholic Climate Movement" is an international group committed to protecting God's creation, especially in light of the climate talks with world leaders this December in Paris. The petition calls world leaders to consider the poor and most vulnerable in these discussions during this critical time of our earth's changing climate patterns. The full text can be found on the letter you received, and we invite you to sign on using the questionnaire included.

Please return your completed questionnaire to your director, who will mail all of them back by June 12 (or as soon as possible thereafter). In the meantime, please contact Gina Marty in St. Louis or call her at 314.533.1207 if you have questions.

In justice and peace,

Assembly update
- photography

Dear Brothers:

Questions have come up regarding the photos being taken at the Retreat Assembly. We need professional photos because we don't have current photos available for many of our brothers, and we get frequent requests for them. We ask that you use your best judgment in deciding what to wear for the portrait - the way you would choose to be represented for a jubilee, for example.

We will have dress coats available for those who do not want to carry a coat. For those choosing a coat, please bring a light shirt and tie with you. We appreciate your willingness to help us with this.

Note: This publication is designed for brothers only, so I would ask you not to forward it. If you can't see the photos, click on the link at the top of this newsletter. Also, please print this out and share with brothers who do not use e-mail.
