Provincial Council Meetings

March 25 - 27

From Fr. Marty Solma

Dear Brothers:

Extended General Council

I returned from Rome last weekend. The visitation of the Chaminade Seminary went well, and the visitation report was shared with the Extended General Council (EGC), which met March 17-19. The EGC is comprised of the General Council plus the zonal presidents for the five Zonal Conferences in the Society of Mary: The Marianist Conference for North America; the Conference of Latin American Marianists (CLAMAR); the Conference of European Marianists; the Conference of African Marianists; and the Asia Zone.

The work of the EGC was a proposal for zonal reconfiguration for the General Leadership Assembly, which will meet in Rome July 5-19. The highlight of the days in Rome was the celebration of the Feast of St. Joseph with Fr. Corts and both communities at Via Latina, 22. This week Joe Kamis and I attended the meeting of CMSM Region V, for which Joe serves as chair.

Chapter Report

As I mentioned last week, this year's session of the Provincial Chapter was both substantive and focused. A link to my report is below. Perhaps it can serve as an outline for some of the post-Chapter meetings that will be held around the Province.

Bicentennial anniversary

Below is a link to a joint circular from Fr. Manuel Corts and Sr. Franca Zonta concerning the joint celebration of the bicentennial anniversary of the Society of Mary and the Daughters of Mary Immaculate. It was sent on the Feast of the Annunciation, the new patronal feast of the Marianist Family.

As we begin Holy Week, let us remember to pray for one another.  We especially commend Bro. Joe Grieshaber to the Lord's love and mercy.

Fraternally,

From Fr. Bill Meyer

My Dear Brothers:

As we approach Holy Week . . .

In the Gospel of John, what starts out as a simple Passover celebration among friends takes a strange turn. First, Jesus washes the feet of the twelve: the revered master becomes the slave.

And then, suddenly, there is talk of betrayal: the beloved teacher is doomed to the humiliating death of crucifixion.

As the writer of the Fourth Gospel notes, none of the eleven realize what is going on. They have no idea what Judas is about to do. They think Jesus and Judas are talking about arrangements for the dinner. READ MORE >>>

The Annunciation

Yesterday, March 25, on the Solemnity of the Annunciation, we also celebrated the patronal feast of the Marianist Family. Happy feast day to all lay and professed Marianists!

Thank you

A grateful thank you to all brothers who wrote consultations for temporary vow renewal and perpetual vows. Thanks also to communities that participated in community feedback discussions for our brothers in initial formation. I realize these consultations and discussions take a great deal of time and effort, but they are integral to our formation program. Thank you for your generous fraternal support

With fraternal affection,
