Provincial Chapter

  St. Louis

March 5 - 9

From Fr. Marty Solma

Dear Brothers:

Provincial Council Consultation

I want to remind you about the consultation for Provincial Council membership. I appreciate the thoughtful consultations that have already arrived and urge you to complete the consultation no later than Feb. 22 (this Sunday) if you've not done so already. The new Council members must be approved by the General Administration. The consultations may be sent by email to [email protected]; by confidentlal fax to 314.783.0417; or by regular mail to Fr. Martin Solma, Marianist Province of the United States, 4425 West Pine Blvd., St. Louis MO 63108-2301.

Provincial Chapter

The Provincial Chapter will take place from March 5-9 at the Marianist Retreat and Conference Center in Eureka, Mo. The Provincial Council reports and other documents may be found on the Province PORTAL. During the next two weeks, pre-Chapter meetings will take place around the Province. I urge you to take part in one of these meetings.

Presidential search

Fr. Jim Fitz and I are members, by right, of the presidential search committee for the president of the University of Dayton. Dr. Dan Curran will complete his service as president of UD in June 2016. The hope is to have the new president named by the end of the year.

Extended General Council

From March 11-21, I will be in Rome for the Extended General Council (EGC) and for the annual visitation of the seminary community. The EGC will finalize a proposal on restructuring the Society of Mary, an initiative mandated by the last General Chapter. This proposal will be addressed at the General Leadership Assembly in July in Rome.

Retreat Assembly

The Province Retreat Assembly is being well planned by the committee, co-chaired by Bro. Jesse O'Neill and Fr. Oscar Vasquez. You should have received your registration email yesterday. If you did not, contact Donna Tucker. Except for those unable to attend for reasons of health or infirmity, the expectation is that all members of the Province attend this important Province event. I am grateful to the committee members for the time and effort they have put into the planning.

We begin Lent this week. As always, I will pray for each of you during this holy season. May it be a time of grace for us as a Province.

Fraternally,

From Fr. Bill Meyer

My Dear Brothers:
.

As we begin this holy season of Lent I offer some additional resources:

From the Jesuits:  "Igniting our Values," a Lenten 2015 digital prayer experience. Participants will receive an evening email with newly posted content from Ash Wednesday, Feb. 18, through Easter Sunday, April 5, 2015.

From the Dynamic Catholic Institute: "Best Lent Ever" Daily Reflection from Matthew Kelly.

With fraternal affection,

From the JPIC Office

Dear Brothers:

As we begin the Lenten season, Pope Francis asks us to be firm against indifference and to seek a heart that is "merciful, attentive and generous." We are invited to embrace his call to mercy by reaching out to those in need and to be
generous with our time, talent and treasure.

Lenten resources

*Read a Daily Lenten Calendar from the United States Bishops Conference.

*Read the Pope's Lenten message for 2015.

From the Marianist Environmental Education Center

Drawing on Catholic Social Teaching, climate change science and Scripture readings (Cycle A), this Lenten resource includes a weekly commentary, reflection questions and prayer suggestions to guide the reader through the Lenten Season in consideration of climate justice. Included are suggestions for an "Energy Fast" and "Forty Ways in Forty Days" to cut personal energy use. Suitable for individuals and communities.

In justice and peace,

Brian Reavey, director
