From Fr. Marty Solma

Dear Brothers:

Congratulations to Bro. Ray Fitz, who will receive the Hesburgh Award at the annual meeting of the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities (ACCU) in Washington on Jan. 31. This is the greatest recognition given to a leader in Catholic higher education in the United States. Bro. Ed Brink and I will represent the Province at this wonderful occasion which honors Ray's significant contributions to Catholic higher education over many years. Well done, Ray, and our fraternal congratulations.

Fraternally,

Praesidium Accreditation

The Marianist Province of the United States will have "site visits" from members of the Praesidium team during the next few weeks. Communities that will be visited include Cupertino, Casa Maria (San Antonio), Stonemill (Dayton), the Novitiate, Chaminade in St. Louis and the West Pine office. Praesidium, the national leader in abuse risk management, works to create safe environments. The Marianists partner with Praesidium on these issues.

The Praesidium visitor will contact the director of these communities, and may conduct random calls to other directors. They will review the Province's adherence to the 25 standards, among which are our "Child Protection Policy" and the educational component that we conduct each year with communities.

Thank you for your assistance with this visit from Praesidium.

Fraternally,

Religious Formation Conference:

the Year of Consecrated Life

"Bearers of hope" is one of Pope Francis' descriptive, evocative names for women and men religious. More than simple optimism, Christian hope is a gift of the Spirit. Welcomed and nurtured, hope is grounding and energizing, sustaining and challenging.

In a series of one-day gatherings focused on HOPE, the Religious Formation Conference celebrates one of the aims Pope Francis has identified for the Year of Consecrated Life: to embrace the future with hope.

READ DATES/PLACES FOR THE GATHERINGS

Participants in each gathering will explore the virtue and discipline of hope through a specific perspective -- theology, psychology, mission, or the Scriptures and spirituality -- guided by prominent presenters. There will be time for contemplation, group conversation and interaction with presenters.

Three of these venues are within range of Province communities. Why not plan a community day celebrating and nurturing the gift of consecrated life? We will let you know when registration begins (via the website of the Religious Formation Conference).

In Memoriam

Finally, our thanks to the Province of Meribah, and in particular, the brothers of the Chaminade Mineola Community who hosted the Mass of Christian Burial for Fr. John Melloh, and a wonderful reception after the interment. Our thanks to Fr. Jerry Chinchar who preached a beautiful homily.

With fraternal affection,

From Bro. Ed Brink

Dear Brothers: .

Please join me in welcoming Hannah Terry as the new director of the Marianist Urban Students Program (MUSP) at Purcell Marian High School in Cincinnati. Hannah is a 2012 graduate of Morehead State University in Kentucky. She recently completed her teacher certification at Xavier University.

Hannah pursued the teacher certification after spending a year working in Washington, D.C., as an intern at Shared Hope International and as a marketing assistant at the National Journalism Center. Her student teaching was completed at Purcell Marian. At Morehead State, Hannah was a student leader of the campus ministry program for three years. Her senior thesis focused on the Catholic Church's involvement in the Vietnam anti-war movement.

Fraternally,
