Dear brothers:

Sorry for the blank comments from Bro. Ed Brink on the issue of "Notes" you just received. He does have a lot to say, just not this week! My apologies.

Also ... the link in Fr. Bill Meyer's comments did not work for some reason. Try it again (below) and here's hoping the computer gods are with us.

One more thing: If you haven't updated your PORTAL password in the last six months or so, you may need to do so to open the PORTAL. Contact Ann Mueller and she'll take care of it quickly.

 Have a wonderful day.

Death of Blessed William Joseph Chaminade, 1850

Jan. 22

From Fr. Marty Solma

Dear Brothers:

Travels

This week, Bros. Joe Kamis, Ed Brink and I are attending the UD board retreat in Washington, D.C. Fr. Bill Meyer presided at the funeral of Fr. John Melloh on Tuesday in New York, and is attending meetings at St. Mary's University in San Antonio.

Formators and leaders from the Sector of Mexico will attend a Spanish-speaking formation meeting this week in Bogot, Columbia, organized by the general assistant for religious life. This is similar to the formation meeting last summer in Rome for English-speaking formators. Attending will be Fr. Raymundo Domnguez Gonzlez, sector superior; Bro. Rgulo Garca Hernndez, office of education; and Bro. Ed Longbottom, responsible for pre-novitiate formation.

Consultation deadline next Tuesday

A reminder that the consultation for assistant provincial is due in Rome by Jan. 20. Please attend to this important provincial responsibility.

Personnel

Fr. Kip Stander, who has served in the District of India for the past three years, has returned permanently to the Province. Kip will stay at the Casa Maria community in San Antonio as a home base while he pursues a short-term reentry program and prepares for a new Province ministry. Thanks, Kip, for your service to the Province and the District of India.

Report of the General Administration

At the conclusion of their visitation of the Province, the General Administration met with the Provincial Council to present its report to the Council. This report will be on the agenda of the Provincial Chapter in March. The full report is available on the PORTAL.

As the world's attention was drawn this past week to the terror attacks in Paris, less attention, sadly, was given to a massive tragedy in Baga, Nigeria, during which 2,000 people were slain by Boko Haram. Makes us think, again, that every life is important and every tragic event deserves attention.

Good read for the New Year: "The Impact of God" by Iain Matthew.

Peace to all as we begin a new year of grace.

Fraternally,

From Fr. Bill Meyer

My Dear Brothers:

"Open House" is First Observance of the Year of Consecrated Life

The Conference of Major Superiors of Men has sent a helpful checklist for local religious communities to prepare for, and to join, the first Common National Observance of the "Year of Consecrated Life" -- an Open House on Feb. 8, 2015. If your community is unable to participate on Feb. 8, please choose another date.

On the link below are easy, helpful suggestions from the Conference of Major Superiors to make your community known in your local area. I hope all our communities will take advantage of this opportunity to celebrate the Year of Consecrated Life.

Personnel

Fr. John Klobuka has accepted an assignment to the community in Hollywood, Fla., with residence at Lincoln Street. John will serve as chaplain for both houses, and offer pastoral assistance in the Archdiocese of Miami.

With fraternal affection,

From the Office of JPIC

Dear Brothers:

We are grateful for our Province JPIC Advisory Committee, which met last weekend for its annual meeting in Dayton. In addition to continuing the "Marianist Call to Advance Justice" program, we are looking at future opportunities and possibilities.

Special thanks to Leanne for her ongoing collaboration and help in planning the meeting, the Marianist Sisters for hosting us for Mass and dinner on Adle's feast day, Tim Kenney for presiding at Eucharist, and Jim Facette for making airport runs.

JPIC Committee, standing, Tim Kenney, Mitch Schweickart, Jim Wisecaver, Jim Facette, Bob Donovan and Frank O'Donnell; seated, Brian Reavey, Leanne Jablonski and Rich Thompson

Right to Life March

If any schools, groups or communities are attending the Right to Life March in Washington, D.C. next week, please let me know and email me pictures from the event. We
invited Fr. Tim Kenney and a Vianney student to share a written reflection of their experience, and we'll share that in "Notes" after they return from the march. Thanks to Tim's helpful suggestion, the JPIC Office is planning for a more coordinated effort and possible Marianist gathering during the march in January 2016.

In justice and peace,

Brian Reavey, Director
