September 2014

Greetings!

I am amazed at how busy it is at the start of a school year. Things are hopping at all the sponsored retreat centers, universities and schools. In the middle of this busyness, we pause and give thanks for all that is happening in our lives.

St. John Vianney High School (St. Louis) has received an historic $1 million gift that will help their school make significant upgrades to its academic facilities in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Vianney also has been recognized by The Cardinal Newman Society on this year's Catholic High School Honor Roll as a 2014 School of Excellence.

Michael Hyde, a graduate of Chaminade College Prep (St. Louis) and the University of Dayton, is featured on the cover of Catholic St. Louis magazine. The magazine article describes Michael's two years of post-graduate service and what it means to live in faith.

Villa Angela - St. Joseph High School (Cleveland) was featured in an outstanding article in Cleveland's Belt Magazine, "Colorblind and Rising: What's Behind the Surprising Success of Cleveland's Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School?" It's a great read about increased enrollment. And, just for fun, the article includes a throw-back picture of Richard Osborne, president at VASJ, attending his 1968 junior prom with his now-wife, Della

Read an article about Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory (Hollywood, Fla.) from the summer issue of ALIVE magazine (page 10) called "Toward a Better World." It highlights almost 20 Chinese students attending the school's international student program. Please submit interesting school/retreat center story ideas for ALIVE magazine, which is sent to almost 100,000 Marianist friends and donors throughout the country.

Each school, university and retreat center has an amazing story to tell. I love following the institutions through social media and the publications you share with us. Thank you for all you do. Know that you remain in my prayers.

Blessings!

A Ministry of Service

Marianist sponsorship, a ministry of service, animates apostolic works through relationship, partnership and the sharing of governance power to ensure fidelity to the mission of the Church and to the charism of Blessed Chaminade.

2014 Meeting of Administrators of Sponsored Ministries

SEE YOU IN A MONTH!

The Marianist Administrators Conference, which will be held in St. Louis Oct. 26 - 28, will focus on the "Principal Characteristics of Marianist Administration." You will deepenyour understanding of what it means to live and articulate the Marianist charism as a leader of a Marianist-sponsored institution.

This conference also will be a great opportunity for networking with more than 50 participants from our schools, universities and retreat centers. Also attending: The Marianists' General Administration from Rome (leaders of Marianists worldwide), the Provincial Council of our U.S. Province, and the Sponsorship Commission. We look forward to seeing you there!

Sponsorship Agreements

As you know, a process for distributing our revised Sponsorship Agreement to every sponsored school is under way. The new agreement was approved by the Provincial Council and the Sponsorship Commission. Revising the agreements was a collaborative effort of the Province, the chief administrators of the sponsored schools, the Sponsorship Commission and other stakeholders.

The revisions will strengthen the collaborative relationships between the Marianist Province and its sponsored ministries.

Office of Formation for Mission

Bro. Bill Campbell has been appointed director of the Office of Formation for Mission for the Marianist Province, effective Sept. 22. The Office develops formational resources and programming for Marianist-sponsored ministries and works with the Office of Sponsorship and NACMS (North American Center for Marianist Studies).

Bill has extensive experience in board service to Marianist institutions. Most recently he served as executive director of the Chief Administrators of Catholic Education Department of the National Catholic Educational Association. He will be based at the Province Office in St. Louis.

Administrator Mentoring Program

The Office of Sponsorship has created an "Administrator Mentoring Program" to help first-year Marianist administrators of sponsored ministries -- presidents and principals and directors of retreat centers -- integrate the Marianist charism and tradition in their new role.

Participants are paired with a representative from the Office of Sponsorship who serves as a connector and guide. Participants have been enthusiastic and supportive of the program.
