Institute for Black Catholic Studies

The Province has donated the library of Fr. Paul Marshall to the Institute for Black Catholic Studies at Xavier University in New Orleans. The institute's director, Fr. Maurice Nutt, was deeply grateful for this gift.

From Bro. Joe Kamis

Bro. Joe Kamis

Dear Brothers:

Directors' Weekend

This year's directors' weekend will be held from Thursday, Oct. 2, to Sunday, Oct. 5, at the Marianist Retreat and Conference Center in Eureka, Mo. We begin on Thursday with a 5 p.m. Mass for early arrivals, followed by dinner at 6 p.m. and opening prayer at 7:15 p.m. The weekend closes with lunch on Sunday, Oct 5. We are pleased to welcome the members of the General Administration for the weekend.

Please make plans to be present for the entire weekend. Information about registration and travel will be sent out in early September.

Personnel

Fr. John Manahan, who lives at the Marianist Residence in San Antonio, has been asked to move to the Woodlawn Community, effective immediately. John will be a good addition to the community as they do not have a priest.

After consultation with the Woodlawn community, Bro. Tim Pieprzyca has been appointed director of the community for his first term of three years.

The Council thanks John and Tim for their "yes" to these changes.

Fraternally,

From the Office of Temporalities

This report is from Brian Reavey:

Dear Brothers:

The Province Office of Justice, Peace & Integrity of Creation and the Marianist Environmental Education Center collaborate in providing opportunities for ongoing education, advocacy, prayer and engagement to promote a healthy, sustainable earth. Sr. Leanne Jablonski, FMI, director of MEEC, and Brian Reavey, director of JPIC, have developed short and long-term strategies for advancing the integrity of creation in the Marianist Family and beyond.

Three opportunities from the Catholic Climate Covenant:

* "Catholics & Climate" panel discussions are scheduled in cities across the country, including St. Louis (Sept. 24, St. Louis U.), Pittsburgh (Oct. 14, Duquesne), Dayton (Oct. 25, UD), Philadelphia (Nov. 11, Villanova), and Cincinnati (Nov. 13, Mount St. Joseph).

* Honor the Oct. 4 Feast of St. Francis by signing the St. Francis Pledge as an individual, community and/or institution. Read more.

* Participate in a community learning activity -- from Pope Francis, to St. Francis to you -- by using the online videos and downloadable curricula (age-specific for adults, college age, or high school/youth) available Sept. 1.

Sign the pledge, download free curriculum, and register to receive updates from the Catholic Climate Covenant, and information on Catholics and climate events in your region.
