From Fr. Marty Solma

Dear Brothers:

The funeral for Fr. Paul Marshall was beautiful, a fitting tribute and send-off to a beloved member of the Province. Fr. Chris Wittmann and the novitiate community organized the liturgy and Bro. Charlie Johnson arranged for hospitality for the Marshall family; both did a wonderful job. Bro. Mike O'Grady gave a touching and heartfelt homily. The music, readings, expressions of sympathy and testimonials at the luncheon made the entire day special. Dr. Dan Curran, president of the University of Dayton, was present with his wife and sponsored the luncheon at the River Campus. Also present was Tom Mengler, president of St. Mary's University. Internment took place later in the afternoon, led by Fr. Bill Meyer. Thanks to Province members who expressed sympathy and support during the last two weeks. Now, we can rely on Paul's prayers and intercession on our behalf.

The Provincial Council is addressing the responsibilities of Paul's office. I will discuss next steps with Fr. Manolo Corts. Questions concerning the Office of Temporalities should be emailed to Bro. Joe Markel.

Marianist Mission

Bro. Ed Brink, Bro. Francisco Gonzlez and I visited the renovated Marianist Center at Mount St. John, new home to the Marianist Mission. This was the final project that Fr. Paul supervised before his death. The facility is bright, clean, well-organized and set in a beautiful environment. Many thanks to Linda Hayes and her team for the monumental task of shifting the operation with little disruption to operations. Thanks to Bro. Jack Somerville, who continues his work with the architect and engineers. The dedication of the facility is set for the end of September during the visit of the General Administration.

Jubilees

The Province will celebrate its jubilarians in Douglaston, N.Y., on Aug. 2, and in Dayton on Aug. 9. Let's be grateful for these brothers, for their lives of consecration, and for their fidelity to God's grace. Ad multos annos!

Fraternally,

From Fr. Bill Meyer

Dear Brothers:

We welcome Trinidad Tejadas Agostos to the Marianist Aspirancy! Trinidad, 22, is from El Paso, Texas, and graduated from St. Mary's University in May with a bachelor's degree in vocal performance, music. His application was approved by the Provincial Council with the recommendation of Bro. Tom Wendorf, vocation director.

Trinidad met the Marianists through Bro. Mike Sullivan in the Music Department. He recently participated in a live-in with the Casa Maria community, and the experience confirmed for him a calling he had sensed for several years. Trinidad has considerable experience as a church choir leader and singer, and a desire to serve God in and through community. On Aug. 15, he will begin his aspirancy with Bro. Dennis Bautista, aspirancy director, and the Casa Maria community. Welcome, Trini!

From Bro. Ed Brink

Dear Brothers:

Bro. Steve Glodek has been asked by the National Religious Retirement Office to develop educational opportunities and resources for effective property management and utilization to assist leaders of religious institutes. After careful consideration, the Provincial Council felt Steve could make a significant contribution to this effort and supports his involvement. His engagement with NRRO will be extensive but not full time.

Bro. Steve will remain involved in the Office of Formation for Mission. The Council will consider options for developing the work of the office as it relates to board formation with our sponsored ministries. We thank Steve for his willingness to serve the church and religious orders.

Bro. Andy Kosmowski will join the staff of the Marian Library at UD on Aug. 18 and will be a member of the Meyer Hall community. He recently completed a degree in library science at the University of Missouri. We are grateful to Andy for his willingness to serve.

Fr. Sbastien Abalodo (Togo) will join the faculty of the International Mariological Research Institute (IMRI) at the University of Dayton in September. Sbastian recently completed studies at the Marianum in Rome. He will be a member of the Stonemill-Kiefaber Community.

From the Office of Temporalities

This report comes from Brian Reavey.

Dear Brothers:

I'm still reeling from the sudden death of Fr. Paul, but I am comforted by our meeting last month. We finalized all JPIC programming, meetings and priorities for 2014-15.

Marianist Call to Advance Justice

The "Marianist Call to Advance Justice" program for SM communities remains active, and I will contact directors soon to schedule the remaining 25 community workshops. We will conclude Phase 1 of

MCAJ with SM communities by May 2015. I continue close involvement with MEEC, MSJC and the Province JPIC Committee.

Marianists International

Our NGO at the United Nations, "Marianists International," remains engaged with issues of poverty, social protection, human trafficking and integrity of creation. I will meet with Bro. Mike McAward from
the General Administration next month to discuss increased international SM engagement with our NGO.

Socially Responsible Investing

The Province continues to advocate JPIC-related concerns at the corporate level with our socially responsible investing efforts.
Bro. Rich Thompson represents us in San Antonio as a member of the Socially Responsible Investment Coalition, and I continue representation in St. Louis with the Midwest Coalition for Responsible Investing.

We also maintain involvement with the Interfaith Center for Corporate Responsibility. With Paul's blessing, I was elected to ICCR's board of directors as a representative of a faith-based member organization. Let me know if we can assist you or your community in any way.
