Dear Brothers:

FR. PAUL MARSHALL

This has been a sad, difficult week. I know you join me in thanksgiving for the life of Paul Marshall and the lasting contributions he made to the Society of Mary and the Church.

I arrived back in the U.S. this morning. Paul's body will be flown to Columbus where Larry Glickler will receive it and prepare for the funeral on Saturday.

I deeply appreciate the help of the brothers in India for the many ways they made a challenging journey easier. Special thanks to Bros. Augustus Surin and Tom Oldenski, who were the first to find Paul last Thursday morning and who helped significantly during the first few days after Paul's death. The response of the Indian Marianists was deeply fraternal and caring.

Many thanks also to Pat Stephens, Bros. Tom Giardino and Bob Wiethorn, and Fr. Chris Wittmann for their efforts in managing logistics.

Here are the arrangements for Paul's funeral:

Saturday, July 26

9:30 a.m. Wake at Ascension Catholic Church in Kettering

11:30 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at Ascension; luncheon follows at River Caf, UD River Campus, 1700 South Patterson Blvd.

4:30 p.m. Burial at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Mount Saint John

Lodging at Bergamo may be available for Friday and Saturday nights. Preference will be given to Paul's family and to brothers from out of town. Please contact Bro. Charlie Johnson for information.

Fraternally,

NEW ARCHIVIST TO BEGIN IN AUGUST

I am happy to welcome Mary Elizabeth Kenney as provincial archivist beginning Aug. 4.

Mary will oversee the move of our archives from Dayton and San Antonio to a new space on campus at St. Mary's University. She comes to us from the California province of the Jesuits, where she assisted in moving their archives.

Mary will be based in San Antonio but will spend significant time in Dayton over the next year. Bro. Earl Leistikow will continue to work in the archives in San Antonio.Until the move is completed, Fr. Paul Vieson and Bro. John Habjan will continue to spearhead the work in Dayton. In addition to managing the move, Mary will develop a document retention policy for the Province.

Mary Kenney
We are working with administrators at St. Mary's to identify a space for the archives, and we hope to finalize that decision in the next few months. Mary and her team will organize the materials in both locations so that when the new space is ready, we can make the move with as little disruption as possible.

Please join me in welcoming Mary. Her email address will be [email protected].

CUH, UD TEAM UP FOR DEGREE PROGRAM

Earlier this summer, administrators from Chaminade University of Honolulu and the University of Dayton signed an agreement that will enable qualified CUH students to obtain a doctorate in physical therapy or a master's degree in physician assistant practice from the University of Dayton.

It is gratifying to see Marianist universities build affiliations that strengthen the institutions and serve their student bodies.
