From Fr. Marty Solma

Dear Brothers:

During the next month, two important events will take place which involve our developing units.

SECTOR OF MEXICO - ASSEMBLY

From July 1-3, an assembly for the Sector of Mexico will be held, facilitated by Bro. Tom Giardino and Karina Marquez Martinez, a local consultant. The assembly will include discussions about future direction and ministry developments. All members of the sector will attend, as well as Bro. Francisco Gonzlez and me.

This assembly will follow the Stella Maris program for temporary professed of the Province in Quertaro, coordinated by Fr. Oscar Vasquez. All US and Mexican temporary professed will be present.

Also, we have conducted a consultation of brothers in the sector and are preparing for the announcement of leadership.

Please hold this intention in your prayers.

DISTRICT OF INDIA- VISITATION

From July 7-20, Fr. Paul Marshall, Bro. Joe Kamis and I will visit the Indian communities, discussing leadership with the professed brothers. Fr. Paul will visit the communities in the north (Ranchi, Binda, Singhpur); Bro. Joe will visit the communities near Bangalore; and I will visit Patna, Budakata and Khamman (Andra Pradesh).

The District of India will hold an assembly at the end of the year, and will install leadership on Jan. 1, 2015. Profession of perpetual vows will follow on Jan. 2. Please pray for this important intention and for the growth of Marianist life in India.

PERPETUAL VOWS - MEXICO AND INDIA

clockwise, from top left: Bros. Rigoberto, Balaswamy, George and Peter Paul

The following brothers have been approved for perpetual vows in the Society of Mary: Bro. Rigoberto Martnez Hernndez (Mexico), who will profess perpetual vows on Nov. 1; and Bros. Peter Paul K., A. Balaswamy and George Hans (India), who will profess on Jan. 2. We offer our fraternal congratulations and best wishes and pray that their religious commitment will strengthen the future of the Society of Mary in Mexico and India.

AND MORE ...

Welcome home to Fr. Michael Nartker, who arrived from Zambia on June 2. After a home visit, Mike will join his new community at Governor's Island in Ohio and will pursue sabbatical experiences in the coming year.

Last week, you read my letter to the bishop and Church in Pittsburgh. I received a wonderful response from Bishop Zubik. Read the bishop's letter. We continue to pray for the safety and security of those we serve in ministry.

Fraternally,

From Fr. Bill Meyer

My Dear Brothers:

On Aug. 24 we will mark the 175th anniversary of Blessed Chaminade's famous "Letter to the Retreat Masters" of 1839. Read it here. You might consider prayerfully re-reading this seminal letter during the time of your annual retreat, or during a leisurely "summer prayer moment."

I am amazed at the similarities/parallels to Pope Francis' "Evangelii Gaudium," especially in Blessed Chaminade's and Pope Francis' concern about poverty and availability for the mission.

For those brothers attending Province retreats, we will have copies of the letter available (bring your own copy of "Evangelii Gaudium"; you can view it here).

Let us pray for one another at this time of the annual retreats that we may open ourselves to God's Holy Spirit, enabling us to be joyful bearers of the good news of the Gospel of Jesus.

With fraternal affection,

From Fr. Paul Marshall

Dear Brothers:

NGO OFFICE IN NEW YORK

As expected, the lease for our NGO office space in New York City for "Marianists International" will end on June 30, 2014.
The landlords are renovating the building and are drastically increasing the rent.
However, Brian Reavey will continue to serve as our NGO's main representative and travel there one week per month.

To effectively steward our resources, we will not maintain a physical office space in New York. Brian will work out of other NGO common spaces and public business centers, as well as regular monthly meeting spaces at the UN.

Fraternally,
