Dear Brothers
:

CUR OF ARS COMMUNITY

I would like to share an important decision the Provincial Council has made with the Cur of Ars community in St. Louis.

For several years, the Council has discussed with the community how to best live community life and minister at St. John Vianney High School with fewer Marianists on the property. The large community house was built for more than 30 Marianists; today there are five.

A decision was made to have the community move out of the existing house and rent a home in the suburban Kirkwood area near Vianney that will be more conducive to their community needs.

This decision has been made with much prayer and reflection as we look at Vision 2020 and the invitation we have accepted as a Province to revitalize the apostolic mission inherited from our blessed founder.

For nearly 100 years we have had a community on our property in Kirkwood. As Marianists we will continue our ministry at Vianney -- which we opened in 1960 -- and will maintain the beautiful property with our cemetery and art gallery. Discussion regarding the property will continue with the school administration as we determine how we can be partners in mission as members of the Marianist Family.

As part of this decision, there will be personnel changes in the Cur of Ars community:

Bro. Chester Burnog will move to the Marianist Residence community in San Antonio at the end of the school year, assisting the brothers there. Bro. Andy Kosmowski's next ministry is being determined.

Fr. Tim Kenney, Fr. Joe Uvietta and Bro. Roy McLoughlin will continue their ministry at Vianney. These three brothers will move at the end of the academic year.

Fr. Tim will continue as chaplain and director of campus ministry; Bro. Roy will remain a full-time religion teacher; and Fr. Joe will continue as a board member while assisting with Masses and performing community outreach to religious communities and parishes.

I have asked Fr. Tim, the community director, to discuss with the community and the Provincial Council ways to celebrate and bless our many years on the property in Kirkwood as we look to our future.

PRAYERS
