MEETING IN LOS ANGELES
I had a very positive and productive meeting with Archbishop Jos Gomez in Los Angeles last week. He knows the Marianists from his five years as archbishop of San Antonio.
He acknowledged the excellent contribution that St. Mary's University has made to San Antonio and the archdiocese. After consultation with his staff, he will suggest ways the Province can support his pastoral priorities in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.

The two South Korean aspirants, Peter Sung Hyuck Choi and Peter Seung Cheol Choi,
have received their U.S. visas. (Despite their similar names, they are not related.)
They will travel
to Honolulu next week for language study to prepare to enter the novitiate.
They will live in the Hale Malia community. Thanks to
Bro. Dennis Schmitz for his tireless effort in helping these young men through the immigration process.
DISPENSATION
This week we received the formal dispensation from clerical celibacy and priesthood for Joseph Lynch. This has been communicated to Joe, and his formal acceptance of the rescript will finalize the dispensation. Let us pray for Joe and thank him for his years of life and service in the Society of Mary.
CHAPTER NEWS
Reports from the Provincial Council members, together with other Chapter materials, will be forwarded to all brothers in the coming week. I thank the area coordinators for organizing the pre-Chapter meetings to discuss these materials and determine questions for the Council's reflection.
The Council will conclude its area visitations in Hawai'i Feb. 15 - 20.
PRAYERS, PLEASE
Let us continue to pray for the International Assembly of Marianist Lay Communities, which began in Lima, Peru, last Sunday and will conclude on the Feast of the Presentation, Feb. 2. Let us also remember our brothers who are ill, especially those in the health care centers.
Fraternally,
