From Fr. Marty Solma

Dear Brothers:

Hugo Bastida has written to say that he does not wish to renew his temporary vows in the Society of Mary. We wish Hugo the best as he transitions to another way of life. We promise him our prayers and thank him for the three years he has shared our Marianist life. Hugo will return to Miami this week.

Bro. Mbau Jean Bosco Mukulo from the Marianist Sector of the Congo has been awarded an internship as part of the Community Solutions Program, sponsored by the U.S Department of State. Community Solutions is designed for those addressing economic, environmental, political and social challenges in local communities.

Bro. Bosco will intern with the YWCA in Fort Worth and live with the Nolan Marianist Community until December. Bosco is director of academics at the Marianist Institut Superieur de Technologie in Kinshasa. Welcome, Bosco!

Bro. Saju Chittadiyil from the District of India arrived in Dayton last Thursday and will begin a course in educational leadership at the University of Dayton. Saju will be a member of the new Chambers Street community. Welcome!

Tomorrow the Trinity Avenue community will move to the renovated Chambers Street house. Good luck with the move, brothers! The community retains the "Chambers Street Marianist Community" name and Bro. Tom Giardino continues as community director. The Trinity house has been sold to the University of Dayton.

Today is the feast of the Assumption of Mary. She is a clear sign of hope for us on our Christian journey. Let us pray for one another today and for the intentions of the Province, especially our brothers who are sick.

From Fr. Paul Marshall

Dear Brothers:

I'd like to update you on the Mount Saint John (MSJ) project announced several months ago by Fr. Marty. The Province has hired architect Greg Martz as project manager.

Four committees will offer guidance to the Provincial Council:

Land Use Committee

I am chairing this committee, which is looking at the master plan for the core campus and use of open nature areas. Many Province members have suggested we consider "land banking" these natural areas.

Novitiate Committee

Chaired by Fr. Chris Wittmann, this group is considering the needs and design of the new novitiate building, which will be built at the novitiate's present site.

Marianist Mission Committee

Linda Hayes is chairing this committee, which is working on the move of the Mission from downtown Dayton to MSJ in summer 2014.

NACMS/Chaminade Center Committee

Chaired by Carol Ramey, this group is working on moving NACMS from MSJ to the University of Dayton's "River Campus" in mid-October. After NACMS' strategic plan is completed in early 2014, the committee will plan for a new NACMS structure to be built at MSJ.

If you have questions, feel free to email me.

Novices Welcomed in Dayton

New novices Allen Pacquing (left) and Andrew Giles were welcomed to the novitiate in Dayton on Aug. 9 during evening prayer. They're shown with Bro. Ed Brink and Fr. George Cerniglia, who were on retreat with Allen and Andrew the week prior. Fr. Chris Wittmann, novice director, Bro. Charlie Johnson, assistant novice director, and the novitiate community were part of the ceremony. Welcome, Andrew and Allen!
