Wear Yellow Nebraska Cab Rides Available in Lincoln
Cancer patients in Lincoln who don't have access to transportation for treatment can now take part in the new Wear Yellow Cab Ride Program. The program will debut November 1, and is supported by its dedicated sponsors and Wear Yellow Ride, Fun Run & Walk participants. The first Wear Yellow ride took place in 2003. Six years later, Wear Yellow Nebraska became a non-profit. Since then, they have raised more than $40,000, donated more than $90,000 to partner non-profits, and provided over 2,800 cab rides to cancer patients in need of transportation. Two Rivers Launches Screening Advocate Program
Two Rivers Public Health Department in Holdrege and its partners have joined the Lincoln Breast Cancer Alliance, the Metro African American Breast Cancer Task Force and Susan G. Komen® Nebraska in launching a Screening Advocate Program. Two Rivers held a Survivors and Friends Networking luncheon October 27 to recruit Screening Advocates to the start-up team. Makayla Nemecek, a community health worker with Two Rivers is "captaining" the team. The group will be trained in the next few months and asked to reach out to at least 10 friends, co-workers or family members to encourage breast health screening. Each woman contacted will receive a small packet of breast health information and a reminder bracelet as well as follow-up calls to identify barriers and keep them on track. Two Rivers and its partner organizations will work to overcome those barriers and expand access for the women. For more information or to launch a similar program in your area, contact Lori Vidlak.
