Innovation and Entrepreneurship in New York City Panel
On Tuesday evening, January 22, 2013, TACCI President Celal Secilmis participated an exciting panel on the role of innovation and entrepreneurship in New York City's new economy which was held by the Mayor's Office for International Affairs at Gracie Mansion. The event has been designed for trade commissioners, bi-lateral chambers of commerce representatives, and overseas trade and investment professionals to give them a chance to explore opportunities for foreign governments to assist their companies with expanding to New York City.
The panelists included: Daniel Huttenlocher, founding dean of the new Cornell NYC Tech campus on Roosevelt Island; Kathryn Wylde, President & CEO of the Partnership for New York City; and Allison Young, Consul & Senior Trade Commissioner at the Consulate General of Canada. In addition to the panel and questions, participants enjoyed a reception and tours of Gracie Mansion.
Private Sector Partnerships in Preparedness and Humanitarian Response Panel
On 10 December 2012, TACCI President Celal Secilmis attended
a High-Level Panel Discussion on "Private Sector Partnerships in Preparedness and Humanitarian Response" which was held by The Permanent Representatives of Turkey and Germany to the United Nations with the purpose of showcasing existing partnership models between private companies, UN agencies and national Governments in the field of humanitarian assistance and identifiying concrete steps to further deepen cooperation among these actors.
Among the panelists were Ms. Catherine Bragg, Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs,Mr. Jordan Ryan, Assistant Administrator and Director, Bureau for Crisis Prevention andRecovery, UNDP, Dr. Christof Ehrhart, Head of Corporate Communications and Responsibility, Deutsche Post DHL,Ms. Zeynep Özbil, Director of Corporate Citizenship,Turkcell,Moderator: Mr. Robert C. Orr, Assistant Secretary-General for Policy Coordination and Strategic Planning in the Executive Office of the Secretary-General.
The meeting consisted of a short presentation by each of the panelists, followed by an interactive discussion/Q&A session among representatives of members states, private companies, UN agencies and non-governmental organisations.

The TAACI Career Fair, intended to facilitate the networking process for both applicants and recruiters, will be held at the Turkish Center on March 16, 2013

DACA Update
President Barack Obama signed an executive order creating the DREAM Act alternative on June 15, 2012 and so far the government has received close to 400,000 requests. Under the administration plan, illegal immigrants will be immune from deportation if they meet the following conditions;
- They came to U.S. before they turned 16;
- They were under 31 years old on June 15, 2012;
- They have been in the U.S. for at least five continuous years as of June 15, 2012 and they were present in the U.S. on June 15, 2012;
- They have no criminal history; and
- They are currently in school, graduated from a U.S. high school or earned a GED, or served in the military.

Standard Bank Group scoops top honour in annual Project Finance magazine awards
Standard Bank Group has won Project Finance magazine's 2012 African Mining Deal Of The Year for the USD700m project funding for Konkola Copper Mines Plc. The award recognizes Standard Bank Group's capabilities and achievements in helping implement KCM's brownfields expansion project in Zambia's copper belt to re-establish mining operations, and complete the development of the KonkolaDeep Mining Project.
Once the expansion project is complete, KCM will double its production to 400,000 tonnes of copper per year and extend the mine's life by 23 years. For more please click here...
