The President's Letter
Alexia Pic
Dear Volunteers and Supporters
of The Coach Initiative,

As The Coach Initiative advances its mission to bring the power of coaching to the non-profit world,
I am delighted to be able to share some of the recent highlights.

The Harnisch Foundation Awards Major Grant

I am exceedingly grateful for the continued support of Ruth Ann Harnisch and for the major financial investment The Harnisch Foundation has contributed to The Coach Initiative.

Ruth Ann 2010Recently, The Harnisch Foundation made its second $25,000 contribution to The Coach Initiative! It's no wonder that Ruth Ann Harnisch was the recipient of the Spirit of Coaching award at the Conversation Among Masters held in New Mexico last month.

In these challenging economic times, charitable contributions are more difficult to obtain.
And, where there is funding, more and more foundations and corporations want to see their dollars earmarked for specific projects which have an immediate impact. What is special about The Harnisch Foundation grant is that the foundation is so committed to our vision that it is willing to underwrite our administrative expenses and invest in our capacity building.

In our organization, the major costs are related to the behind-the-scenes administrative expenses, systems and technology. This is because we are fortunate that our key services are delivered by volunteer coaches, by our working board and by other volunteers offering their professional services. However, in order to grow, we need to "keep the lights on and the switchboard open" as we continue to establish a sustainable base of support for our operations. The Harnisch Foundation has once again signaled that it is behind us for the long term. The lumens are off the charts and our operators are standing by...

Thank you, Ruth Ann and The Harnisch Foundation, for your faith and trust.

Client, David Kellen of the Israel-Palestine Center for Research and Information, Talks with Phyllis Haynes and Expresses Appreciation of Coaching

Alexia PicWe invite you to listen an interview with David Kellen, Strategic Affairs Unit Coordinator of the Israel-Palestine Center for Research and InformationThe IPCRI, founded in 1988, is a think-- and do--tank for peace and is dedicated to the "two states for two peoples" solution. The IPCRI was founded on the principle that it should be a joint partnership between Israeli and Palestinian intellectuals, academic, professionals, politicians and others, reflecting a conviction that peace-making and peace-building must similarly be joint and bi-partisan efforts (assisted by the international community). In these challenging times, we are grateful to the leadership of the IPCRI for its commitment to peace.

Mr. Kellen credited his coach, Doug Autenrieth, with "making it possible for [him] to do more important work" and said that his coaching experience was "exceptionally beneficial".

Rick KocaDoug Autenrieth is an executive coach who works with high achievers who want to create sustainable growth for themselves and their organizations. It is no surprise that Doug, a former Marine captain, a financial consultant and a martial arts instructor, emphasizes personal strength and discipline in his coaching.

Board Comings and Goings...

Last month, Donna Karlin stepped down from our Board. The current demands on her time are extraordinary and, as a matter of integrity, Donna realized that she was presently unable to devote as much time as she would like to TCI. The Board accepted her resignation with regret and has left the door open for her future participation.  Known as "the Shadow Coach", I could always count on Donna to offer leadership wisdom and support to me, as well as to participate fully in her role as a board member.

At this time, it is my pleasure to introduce you to two new members on our Board: Heather Kaye and Kanu Kogod. You'll soon be hearing more about these talented and generous coaches and the Leadership Sanctuary program that they are bringing to The Coach Initiative.

For the incredible commitment and support of our board members--past and present, I am truly grateful.

"Sometimes It Just Takes A Nod"

Last month, at the Conversation Among Masters conference, I had the pleasure to meet one of our early supporters, Sally McCue. Because I personally write the letters of appreciation, I recognized from her nametag. I introduced myself, thanked her for her support and asked her what moved her to contribute. As she scratched her memory, she said "that was a while ago, wasn't it". In fact, it was over two years ago, when we first began our donor outreach. Then, she said, "I've been in your position before--trying to get something started. I know how it feels. Sometimes it just takes a nod from someone else to know that you are being supported and are on the right track."

When I wrote to request permission to publish this reference to our earlier conversation, I was moved by her response:
"Absolutely use the recall of our CAM conversation in the newsletter.  I always benefit from remembering what it
feels like at the beginning of a dream, when I am most open and vulnerable guided by spirit on a path I'm completely committed to, but rarely fully understand. Being seen and acknowledged during that fragile period has for me made the difference between staying the course or surrendering
to the unrelenting voice of self-doubt.  A nod, a kind word,
a contribution, any and all of these, can be exactly what
we need in the moment to keep the dream alive."
With love,

Sally

We appreciate each and every nod!  It keeps the dream alive.

We are grateful for the many contributions
we have received from individuals in the coaching community!
In answer to our call for support, many of you continue
to include TCI in your personal, charitable giving plans.

If you would like to make a contribution,
your gift would be greatly appreciated!
