Is your congregation registered?
Moving to new ways of doing things can be confusing but ultimately is worth the effort. With the changes being made in the registration process for Diocesan Convention this year, we thought it best to present a list of those churches that currently have completed all three parts of the registration process: lay member certificate, online registration, and payment of registration fees. The 22 churches that have successfully competed all three parts of the process are:- Christ Church, Albion
- St. James', Batavia
- Ascension, Buffalo
- St. Paul's Cathedral, Buffalo
- Trinity, Buffalo
- St. Andrew's, Burt
- St. Matthias', East Aurora
- Trinity, Fredonia
- St. Mary's, Gowanda
- St. Martin's, Grand Island
- Trinity, Hamburg
- St. Paul's, Harris Hill
- St. Paul's, Holley
- Good Shepherd, Irving
- St. Luke's, Jamestown
- Trinity, Lancaster
- St. Mark's, LeRoy
- St. Mark's, Orchard Park
- Holy Apostles', Perry
- Grace, Randolph
- Trinity, Warsaw
- St. John's, Youngstown
If the name of your church does not appear above, please contact Alice Brown at 716-881-0660 x12 to find out what yet needs to be done. Hotel Reservations for Convention

Help, I need somebody.
Help, I need someone.
Won't you please, please help me!
(Beatles, circa 1964)
The Nominating Committee for Diocesan Convention would like to thank everyone who registered their nomination in a most timely fashion. For the most part, it was a splendid response to our call. Yet, in the spirit of the democratic process, there is still opportunity for legitimate competition in some committee races, and a glaring need in another.
Here is the condition of the election slate as of this writing:
Standing Committee - available slots filled (no competition)
Trustees - available slots filled (no competition)
Partnership Board - NO NOMINEES!
Gen. Convention Deputies - all 8 cleric slots filled, 5 of 8 lay slots filled (both orders include deputies and alternates)
As you can see, we are pleased to have mostly filled election slots in three out of four races. However, we would continue to encourage competition in those areas. We still like using pencils and digitek sheets! You may still enter any of these races by contacting Alice Brown at 881-0660, x12.
On a more ominous note, we must appeal to those of you concerned about making a difference in the lives of others outside the walls of our churches. The Partnership is basically the Mission & Outreach arm of our Diocese, and it needs your help to carry out its own mission. Developing liaisons with community agencies, helping congregations become engaged in new avenues of outreach, and advocating Christ's work in the world, are just some of the positive, forward-thinking rewards that it intends to foster. We need good, caring people (clergy and lay alike) to join the good fight. Please look around your congregations for individuals that fit that profile and have them call Alice Brown soon.
We'd like to be able to sing another Beatle's tune before Convention, "Here Comes the Sun".
Peace and Blessings,
The Nominating Committee

Looking for a program for teens?
I saw this mentioned on my Episcopal Communicators list and thought some of you might find it of interest: Let There be . . . Stuff? is a Spirit-filled response to a consumer-crazed world, a faith based program designed for a youth ages 13-18. It is organized in six sections:
- Caring for Creation - Opening ourselves to the awe and wonder of Creation and our role as Earth stewards.
- The Story of Stuff - Revealing the whole Story of Stuff, from cradle to grave, its impact on people and the planet and hearing the call to take action.
- An Unfortunate Creation Story - Looking at the specific stories of some of our favorite Stuff: What's in it, how it was made, how it got to us, and the real cost of production to the planet and people.
- Don't Buy It - Learning how we are being manipulated by the media to keep endlessly consuming and how we can start thinking for ourselves and have more fun.
- Waste Not - Learning where our stuff goes when it leaves our hands, the true cost to people and the planet, and how we can reduce our waste.
- Going Forth - Celebrating student's achievement in taking the course and supporting them in taking their next steps as Earth stewards beyond the course.
To learn more visit www.storyofstuff.org where you can watch movies and download the complete program totally for free!

Why join the Episcopal Church?
It's happened to me, and perhaps it's happened to you. I say I belong to the Episcopal Church and someone says "Oh, that's the church with all the gays." This piece by by Bishop Stacy Sauls provides those of us who love the Episcopal Church and what it believes a great way to respond. http://wearemission.blogspot.com/2013/07/why-join-episcopal-church.html

Planning is well underway! Registration is Open
The traditional Convention Packets have been mailed. However, it is important to note that our diocese is joining the overwhelming number of dioceses across the church that conduct Convention Registration online. Clergy, lay delegates and alternates, as well as visitors may use this portal to secure their Convention Registration. If you are a parish administrator who is simply registering your church's clergy and delegates, be sure to select the "Not Attending Convention" option under fees. Please note that online registration does not supplant submission of the Lay Member Certificate required by church canons. Electronic files of this certificate and all other Convention materials currently available may be downloaded from
