As swimmers dare
lie face to the sky
and water bears them,
as hawks rest upon air
and air sustains them,
so would I learn to attain
freefall, and float
into Creator Spirit's deep embrace,
knowing no effort earns
that all-surrounding grace.

All who subscribe to the diocesan news blog receive automatic email alerts whenever new blurbs are posted. You can subscribe to the news blog here.
Another new feature of the page is the feed from the diocesan Facebook page. This appears in the right column just below the video link. The "Our Stories" section, which publishes longer feature articles, remains in the left hand column just above the Events Calendar feed. All churches and ministry groups are encouraged to submit news briefs along with a photo whenever possible for inclusion in the news blog. The guidelines are:

In the News
Our diocese is a member of The Episcopal Network for Stewardship (TENS), an organization committed to inspiring generosity and faithful discipleship. A primary benefit of membership is that all congregations throughout the diocese have access to the 2013 Stewardship Narrative Series, a program designed to complement and support the fall annual giving program. This includes: - Seven Bulletin Inserts to include Worship Bulletins, E-Newsletters, E-Blasts beginning October 6th through November 10th. Each reflection includes discussion questions that can be used for adult formation gatherings.
- Pledge card and proportional giving chart
- Prayers of the People to be used in liturgy over the course of six weeks
- Prayer over the Pledge Cards to be used at the in-gathering of pledges.
- Introductory Letter from the Rector/Vicar
- Introductory Letter from the Stewardship Chair
- Letter of Encouragement from the Senior Warden
We give thanks to the ministry of The Episcopal Network for Stewardship for helping us to plant the seeds of faithful giving in our congregations, with the hope that we all flourish in faith. These resources are password protected as they are intended for use by dioceses who are members of TENS. If your congregation wishes to review and/or use them, please contact the Rev. Jerre Feagin at 716-881-0660 x19 or email him jerrefeagin@episcopalwny.org and he will share the username and password with you.

Planning is well underway! Registration is Open
The traditional Convention Packets have been mailed. However, it is important to note that our diocese is joining the overwhelming number of dioceses across the church that conduct Convention Registration online. Clergy, lay delegates and alternates, as well as visitors may use this portal to secure their Convention Registration. If you are a parish administrator who is simply registering your church's clergy and delegates, be sure to select the "Not Attending Convention" option under fees. Please note that online registration does not supplant submission of the Lay Member Certificate required by church canons. Electronic files of this certificate and all other Convention materials currently available may be downloaded from

Is this your mission?
Is the Great Salt Lake Calling You?
The next General Convention will take place in Salt Lake City, and we need to elect our delegates. We need both clergy and lay people who have an interest in legislation, a passion for mission and who don't mind closely reading reams of paper.
General Convention is the once-every-three-year bi-cameral legislative meeting of The Episcopal Church. It lasts for ten days and in those ten days deals with as much legislation as Congress handles in a year. Put in that perspective, a general convention deputy is akin to a Member of Congress. We need both delegates and alternates. (Delegates do get their expenses covered.)
If you want a hand in running the Foreign and Domestic Missionary Society of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America (and beyond!), now's your chance - nominations are open!
Peace and Blessings,
The Nominations Committee

Prayers Requested
Prayer intentions made at Diocesan Convention that we ask all to add to their personal prayers this week are:
- For discernment
- For strength to do what is right and the courage to carry it out
- Disturb us, Lord, to dare more boldly--to venture on wilder seas where storms will show your mastery. Push back the horizons of our hopes and dreams. In the name of our Captain, who is Jesus, we pray. Amen
