Blue Jay staff often gets worried phone calls this time of year about baby birds on the ground or other small animal babies without parents in evidence.  Sometimes it is hard to know what to do about it!

Wake County Parks, Recreation and Open Space has launched one of our most requested features - an online registration and reservation system. You can now sign up for a public program or reserve a shelter online, and pay for it with a credit/debit card!
To register for public programs (including Summer Camps!) at Blue Jay and other Wake County Parks, visit


Important! If you have registered for a program at any Wake County Parks, Recreation and Open Space park
since October 1, an account has already been created for you--please just enter your email address and select "Forgot my password" to create a new password of your choice. You may then go into your customer account, update your (and your family's) information and then start registering for programs!

Note that you still need to contact Blue Jay's staff to schedule school field trips/group programs, Discovery Boxes and Overnight Lodge rental, but you will now be able to pay any needed fees with a credit/debit card if you choose.

Over in the Meadow
Tuesday, May 17, 10:30-11 a.m.
We'll go explore and search for meadow creatures as we read Over in the Meadow by Jane Cabrera.  Join us as we walk and observe for any animals that may cross our path.

Bluebird Bonanza

Enjoy some activities and go on a short hike to learn about the special connection between these 
cheerful-looking birds and the Bluebirds Trails that brought bluebird population numbers back from the brink.

Blue Jay's pond is teeming with life! Get up close 
and personal with amphibians and aquatic macro- invertebrates as you learn about the producers, consumers and decomposers that keep the food chain going in this tiny pond. 
Family program for ages 5 and up, please.  
Fee: $5/family

Last fall we challenged everyone to tag us @Wakegovparks and #OurWakeCountyParks with their best photos, showing us all the ways you love to enjoy our parks. We received several hundred entries, but were only able to choose 34. Those 34 photos will be on display at Historic Oak View County Park as a temporary exhibit March 4th- May 31st. So stop on by, check it out!
