Fall KCC

My Side of the Point 

Registration begins July 1

Using excerpts from the Jean Craighead George book My Side of the Mountain, we will learn about birds of prey, regional comparisons of plant and animal species, phenological journaling, famous naturalists and the science behind simple outdoor survival skills. Classes will meet at the Blue Jay Center for Environmental Education. 

For ages 9-12 years, class sessions are from 1-3 p.m. 
Fee: $64 for entire semester
of 8 sessions.
Kids Conservation Corps
is an annual natural history education series for children ages 9-12 with a new theme each year. Designed for children who are being homeschooled, this program series will meet 1-3 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays of each month  
(*note date change in December)

October 1 & 15
November 5 & 19 
December 3 & 10*


Pre-registation is required by sending in a completed


NOTE: We must meet a minimum enrollment of 10 participants by August 15
in order to move forward with this series.
Scout Saturday Registration begins July 1
Blue Jay staff really enjoys working with scout groups and their leaders in a variety of ways.  One very popular field trip option is participation in the Scout Saturday program of your choice--and program slots fill up quickly.  Beat the rush by planning for the upcoming scouting year now--registration for 2013-2014 Scout Saturdays begins July 1!  Call us at (919) 870-4330 to determine appropriate topics/dates for your particular scouting level.

    • July 8, 10 & 12   9-11am or 1-3pm sessions
    • $25/child  (Bug-a-Boos Mini-Camp sessions are full--let us know if you'd like your child to be added to the waiting list.
  • Family Wildlife Series: What Lies Beneath!
    • For all ages, but activities and content are most appropriate for ages 5 and up
    • Saturday, July 6, 2-3:30pm
    • $5/family
  • Family Wildlife Series: Making Waves About Water
    • For all ages, but activities and content are most appropriate for ages 5 and up

Annual Big Sweep

Join ranks to help clean up the Falls Lake shoreline around Blue Jay Point. Bring a water bottle and hat. Sunscreen and your favorite brand of insect repellent is recommended. Closed-toe shoes, such as old sneakers, are a must! This is an excellent opportunity for individuals, families and youth groups (all volunteers ages 8 and up, please) to provide a great community service - pay attention, high schoolers! - call (919) 870-4330 to pre-register.

Looking for Summer Adventure with your kids?  Try out the Jr. Naturalist Challenge!
