Trends in Mobile User Assistance

By Joe Welinkse

Smartphones have sparked a huge, new software segment - the mobile app. This creates an important pair of questions for user assistance professionals: What is our role going forward in mobile and how can we prepare to take that on? User Assistance does have a role in supporting mobile apps. As the mobile app market continues to soar, this is becoming the next frontier for user assistance professionals. This session provides an overview of current issues regarding design, writing, tools, and planning of your mobile UA.

You'll learn:

  • About contemporary design for user assistance in mobile apps.
  • Why traditional desktop UA translates poorly to the small screen.
  • What techniques are particularly useful to employ.
There are only 24 spots available, so register today!

Information Modeling Workshop
Indianapolis, IN
October 12-13, 2015

Are you responsible for your organization's Information Architecture? Do you need to understand how to create that architecture and capture the plans and principles in an Information Model?

This workshop is the very best starting point for your implementation of DITA and XML topic-based authoring. We will cover all aspects of the Information Model, which is the set of principles that define your information architecture. Learn how to build an Information Model for your organization. Learn how to define your information types, the content units they contain, your standard document structures, as well as your metadata schema, file and graphic naming conventions, and folder structure. You will have an opportunity to apply the principles to your own content. You will analyze your organization's potential for content reuse and begin to define a reuse strategy.

  • Session materials are now available at SlideShare. Check this site for more slides and handouts in the days to come.
  • Consider joining our LinkedIn Group. Connect with eLearning Showcase attendees and continue to network with industry professionals throughout the year.
  • Coming soon: Photos from the day posted on Flickr. If you have pictures that you'd like to share, send them to CETS and we'll add them to the collection.

The Chicago Jazz Festival is a favorite Labor Day weekend tradition that "showcases Chicago's vast jazz talent alongside national and international artists to encourage and educate a jazz audience of all ages."

What legendary jazz musician's death in 1974 precipitated an honorary festival in Chicago, originating the Chicago Jazz Festival as we know today?

Send your answer to pr@stc-chicago.com. The first person to respond with the correct answer wins a $20 giftcard to Amazon.com. Check our blog for news of a winner.
