It's hard to believe that Summit 2015 took place just last week in the heartland -- Columbus, Ohio. Thanks to chapter dedication and effort, we received the Community of Distinction award from STC for 2015 at the honors reception, and two of our members, MaryKay Grueneberg and Francis Bao were honored as Associate Fellows. See photos on our Facebook page.
Betsy Maaks, our soon-to-be chapter President (as of July 1) had a few thoughts to share on her time at Summit:
- Top-notch presenters on a variety of interesting topics, keynote speaker, wonderful closing session speaker (a former tech writer now a successful speaker).
- My favorite session was on iterative document development - it was less a 10-step solution than a thoughtful discussion about Agile, Waterfall and similar methodologies. Finally a presentation that lets you ponder and synthesize information!
- Many of my favorite attendees were there, and I also met so many new attendees.
- I am encouraged that the CEO Chris Lyons is reaching out to academia through the college-level honorary societies. Three students performed research sponsored by STC and presented their research boards to judges and interested attendees.
- Fewer attendees this year, I think due to a less interesting venue.
Twitter also continues to play a large role at the Summit, and the #stc15 Twitter stream is still going strong. Check out the #stc15 Facebook stream, too!
Summit 2016 will be May 15-18 in Anaheim, California. Check out all of the past and future Summit locations on the website.
