The White Hart Speaker Series presents "Imagine Me Gone"
by author Adam Haslett, in collaboration with Oblong Books & Music and the Scoville Memorial Library. Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award finalist Haslett presents a ferociously intimate story of a family facing the ultimate question: how far will we go to save the people we love the most? When Margaret's fiancé, John, is hospitalized for depression in 1960s London, she faces a choice: carry on with their plans or back away from the suffering it may bring her. She decides to marry him. This is the unforgettable story of what unfolds from this act of love and faith. their eldest son, Michael, a brilliant, anxious music fanatic who makes sense of the world through parody. Over the span of decades, his younger siblings struggle along with their mother to care for Michael's increasingly troubled and precarious existence.

Adam Haslett is the author of the short story collection You Are Not a Stranger Here, His books have been translated into eighteen languages, and he has received the Berlin Prize from the American Academy in Berlin, the PEN/Malamud Award, and fellowships from the Guggenheim and Rockefeller Foundations. He lives in New York City.

Olivers' bed-and-breakfast is as neat, cozy as a home

Published on

SALISBURY - The Sassafras Bed and Break-fast is not the first such enterprise for Sandy and Peter Oliver.

They ran a bed and breakfast at 31 Millerton Road from 2004 to 2006.Their latest enterprise, at 171 Canaan Road, opened up in October 2015 and, by Sandy Oliver's admission, "started slow."But things have picked up since. In fact, this interview had to be postponed one week because a guest decided to stay longer.

That person was visiting a relative at Noble Horizons, which, along with Lime Rock Park, Salisbury School and The Hotchkiss School, provides the bulk of the business.

There are three bedrooms in a variety of con-figuration's; each has its own bathroom. The common areas are spacious and airy, and there is a deck with a covered area.

"We've met some lovely people," Sandy Oliver aid. The Olivers live on one side of the house; a friend occupies the other side, which once had a liquor store.Sassafras gets a lot of repeat customers.

"People get comfortable and they come and go," said Peter Oliver. "It's like having weekend guests."For more information, go to www.sassfrasbe-dandbreakfast.com.
