Iron Industry Bus Tour May 21st at the SHS

Sharon, CT: The Sharon Historical Society and Museum is pleased to announce an upcoming bus tour of Iron Industry sites led by Ed Kirby. The tour will take place on May 21st, leaving from the Sharon Historical Society (18 Main St, Sharon) at 9 am and lasting approximately 3 hours.

Along with stops to explore Iron Industry sites such as Beckley Furnace and the Lime Rock Furnace #2, historic and geologic points of interest will be pointed out along the drive including the Sharon Green, Caulkinstown and White Hollow Road areas.

St. John Larrimer is a Wall Street investment banker, " the Capitalist", in the fifth novel of Steiner's Louis Morgon series. Thanks to the Larrimer Fund's spectacular returns, everyone wants a piece of the action. The only problem is that the whole operation is phony. And with the collapse of the markets and the demise of some of the biggest investment banks, Larrimer's scam is revealed, and he has to skedaddle to his luxurious Caribbean retreat. Peter Steiner is the author of "Le Crime", "The Terrorist", "L'Assassin", and "The Resistance", and is perhaps best known for his iconic cartoon "On the internet nobody knows you're a dog," the most reproduced cartoon "The New Yorker" has ever published. He lives in Connecticut and spends a good part of each year in rural France, where his books take place.

Millerton, New York, April 12, 2016 ---This summer marks the sixth year for what has become one of the most highly attended and anticipated events in the Hudson Valley's music festival circuit. SPRING FOR SOUND 2016 takes over the Village of Millerton in Dutchess County on Saturday, June 11th from 10am to midnight.

SPRING FOR SOUND is an all-day, rain-or-shine event that takes place in the middle of the beautiful walking village of Millerton, NY. Proceeds from tickets sales will be donated to support the vital programming of the North East Community Center in Millerton, now celebrating 26 years of service. Spring for Sound is co-produced by local residents Mimi Ramos and Kristen Panzer, in partnership with the North East Community Center.

Free Concert Tickets: Award winning Music Organization's Performance with Elizabethan Renaissance Music & Contemporary Composition (Hamlet)

Crescendo Inc. - www.worldclassmusic.org - wants to extend to you an offer of free tickets for a choral performance of "Elizabethan Music and The Sounds of Hamlet" on Saturday, May 21 at 6 pm at First Congregational Church in Great Barrington, MA

The program features sacred and secular English Renaissance Music and the World Premiere of a work on Hamlet Quotes, composed by the young composer Juan Mesa of Holliston, MA. CRESCENDO PRESENTS- ELIZABETHAN MADRIGALS AND MOTETS & THE SOUNDS OF HAMLET

The award-winning music organization Crescendo presents its spring concert program on May 21 and 22. Elizabethan Music and The Sounds of Hamlet will feature madrigals and motets by the greatest British composers of the Elizabethan Age: William Byrd, Orlando Gibbons, Thomas Morley,Thomas Weelkes, and John Wilbye. A commissioned work by the young organist and composer, Juan Mesa, is based on three quotes from Shakespeare's Hamlet. Performers are the Crescendo Chorus, soloists, the Arcadia Viols (a viola da gamba ensemble), and Larry Wallach on continuo organ. Artistic Director Christine Gevert will conduct.

Concerts are at 6 pm on Saturday, May 21 at First Congregational Church, 251 Main St., Great Barrington, MA and at 4pm in Lakeville at Trinity Church Lime Rock, 484 Lime Rock Rd., Lakeville, CT.

Tickets: $30 general, $50 premium and $10 under 18. Groups of ten have a special rate of $220 for the May 21 concert. Tickets are available online at www.worldclassmusic.org/buy-tickets/ . This is a Take Part Culture Card Event of the Northwest CT Arts Council.

Sharon, CT. May 2016 -- It's spring, and that means it is time to think Trade Secrets! This oh-so-popular two-day garden event dubbed the northeast's garden event of the year includes the rare plant and garden antique sale on Saturday, May 14, followed by a self-guided four-garden tour on Sunday, May 15. Both Bunny Williams and Martha Stewart have it on their calendars, do you?

Saturday, garden enthusiasts, will find rare plant specimens from specialized growers and some of the nation's best-known small nurseries; and furniture, antiques, cloches, wrought iron fencing, garden statuary and so much more from the choicest purveyors of garden antiques.

Sunday's garden tour includes four superb Litchfield Connecticut gardens; the rarely visited home garden of Michael Trapp; Carolyne Roehm's "Weatherstone"; the extensive plantings, farmland and barns at "Old Farm Nursery"; and Bunny Williams' and husband John Rosselli's beloved garden.

As an added treat this year on Saturday, Trade Secrets is hosting a book signing to celebrate three new garden books. These include "Outstanding American Gardens; A Celebration - 25 Years of the Garden Conservancy" edited by Page Dickey; "At Home in the Garden" by Carolyne Roehm; and "The Art of Gardening: Design Inspiration and Innovative Planting Techniques" from Chanticleer.

Regular Buying tickets begin at 10 am and are $40, and Late Bloomer tickets, new this year, start at 1 pm and cost $20. Happenings at Noble Horizons

Free Diabetes Workshop
May 2-June 13

On Monday mornings from May 2-June 13, Noble Horizons will host a free comprehensive diabetes series entitled, "Protect Your Health: Self-Care and Management of Diabetes". The course is taught by certified diabetes instructor, Anne Hummel, MS, RN, and will begin with a walk from 9:30-10:00am, followed by class in the Learning Center from 10:00-noon.

The course is appropriate for people who have type 1 or type 2 diabetes, as well as their care givers, support persons, health care professionals and family members. Research has proven that good control of blood sugars impacts significantly on one's health and prevents the severe complications long associated with poorly controlled diabetes.

Participants will receive free materials and learn about the latest medications, tools, and techniques to help control diabetes, as well as how to work with physicians to determine the best treatment plan. The 9:30-10:00am pre-class walk is optional.

The 14th Colony Artists Exhibit at Noble Horizons

On Friday, May 13, from 5:00-7:00 PM, Noble Horizons invites the community to an opening reception for an exhibit of small works by the 14th Colony Artists. Founded in 2009, the 14th Colony Artists is a collective of more than 125 local artists from New York, Connecticut and Massachusetts. Its members include painters, photographers, sculptors, clay artists, installation artists, videographers and filmmakers. The exhibit will be in the Learning Center Gallery which is open on weekends, 11:00 am-4:00 pm, through June 21.

Noble Horizons & Sand Road Animal Hospital to Host Pooch Party to
Benefit Little Guild of St. Francis

Noble Horizons, The Little Guild and Sand Road Animal Hospital are hosting the family friendly and very popular Pooch Party on Saturday, May 14 from 2-3:30 p.m. at Noble Horizons. Admission is free, although donations will be accepted to benefit The Little Guild of St. Francis.

There will be dogs for adoption from the Little Guild, a live bluegrass band, games for dogs, raffles, vendors, a photo booth and costume parade for dogs and their owners, crafts, life-size famous dogs, and activities for children. All dogs must be up to date on vaccines and well-socialized with other dogs; flexi-leads are prohibited. Pre-registration is recommended at www.noblehorizons.org or 860-435-9851. (Rain date May 15.)
