LAND OF FIRES TRAIL CLEARING A SUCCESS!
What a great day we had last Saturday! More than 60 people volunteered several hours of a beautiful weekend day to help clear brush and install almost 20 informational sign posts for our Land of Fires Nature Trail! We're working hard to get ready to open the trail on Homecoming weekend, so stay tuned for more details!

THE TIDE IS IN

Rocky Hill School now has an officially published, student-run school newspaper, The Tide. Launched by Raymond Mancini '15 and Shane Woolley '15, The Tide is a platform for students and other Rocky Hill community members to freely express their opinions to the community on topics concerning our campus, our state, our nation, and our world. It is published online every other Wednesday, and the newest issue, Issue I.II, was released on October 1. We encourage you to check it out, to brush up on current events!

Looking for a unique gift this holiday season? Want to surprise your special guest on Grandfriends' Day? Purchase an inscribed brick in one of three campus brickwalks. This is a timeless way to honor a member of the Rocky Hill School community, past or present. Bricks are $100 each or five for $400 and are installed twice yearly in the fall and spring.

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE
Brenna Miller '15 has been named a Commended Student in the 2015 National Merit Scholarship Program and was recognized for her exceptional academic promise. Although she will not continue in the 2015 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Brenna is placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2015 competition by taking the 2013 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Congratulations, Brenna!

NEW UPPER SCHOOL ENGLISH TEACHER
Please join us in welcoming Mr. Ambler to Rocky Hill's Upper School community. His first day was Monday, September 29.
Harold Ambler has a Bachelor's degree in English from Dartmouth College and a Master's Degree in English from Columbia University where he was a President's Fellow. He has taught at The Touchstone Community School and Wheeler plus worked at Brown University and The New Yorker Magazine.

Parents of juniors are invited to an open forum to learn about the college application timeline in this Q&A session. Parents will also receive a tutorial on Naviance Family Connection.
PSATs for Sophomores and Juniors
Wednesday, October 15th | 8:10 a.m. | Gym
Sophomores and juniors will be taking the PSAT at Rocky Hill School on Wednesday, October 15. The PSAT is a standardized test that provides firsthand practice for the SAT. It also gives juniors a chance to enter the National Merit Scholarship Program and gain access to college and career planning tools. There will be no advisory period for the sophomores and juniors on test day. The test requires two hours and ten minutes and students will resume a normal class day after the exam. As the date approaches, more information will be emailed to students.

Middle School parents should have received an email on Monday regarding the online art gallery that is being launched via Artsonia. STUDENT COUNCIL ELECTION RESULTS
The Middle School held elections for student council this past week. Congratulations to Jason DeGerlia, President; Faythe Schulte, Vice President; Pascale Burnett, Anza DiGasper, and Max Lehoullier, 7th Grade Representatives; Lucia Caito and Dylan Lehoullier, 6th Grade Representatives.
MIDDLE SCHOOL SOCIAL CONTRACT
The Middle School students, working together first by grade and then by an elected committee, created and finalized their Social Contract for this school year. This contract will serve as the guiding principles in all that they do in the Middle School. The contract states that they (the students and faculty) will:
- respect our environment and the people in it;
- display self-discipline and own our actions;
- be open-minded and set a positive example for our peers;
- be prepared for class and take pride in what we do.

Social Cognition: What is it and how can it impact children?
This presentation will familiarize parents with the concept of social cognition and how deficits in this area impact a child's ability to successfully and independently manage the social, emotional, and academic demands of the classroom and the home. We will look at strategies that help support those students who struggle to solve social problems, self-regulate, understand multiple perspectives, and achieve social success.

Sabrina Dumas - Girls' Varsity Field Hockey
"The Girls' Varsity Field Hockey team is proud to recognize Sabrina Dumas '16 as the female athlete of the week. Sabrina's lone goal against Woonsocket gave the lady Mariners the 1-0 win over a top team in our division. Sabrina has improved skills on the off season and is a dedicated, aggressive, and hard working player. Way to go, Sabrina!" -Coach Fairchild

FIELD HOCKEY TO PLAY4THECURE - Tomorrow!
Dress down day is tomorrow!
The Girls Varsity Field Hockey team have joined hands with the National Foundation for Cancer Research to participate in its fundraising campaign entitled Play4theCure, in which sports teams across the country are invited to participate by committing to donate proceeds from at least one game to NFCR.
 The Mariners will be raising funds during their game against Classical High School on October 3rd beginning at 4 p.m. at Rocky Hill School. This is the sixth season that Rocky Hill has hosted a P4TC game. The team has raised over $1,840 and hopes to break their fundraising record this year.
Rocky Hill will be selling pink ribbons and bracelets that entitle students and faculty to a dress down day on Friday, October 3. RHS players will be wearing pink jerseys and socks and Classical will be wearing ribbons and headbands in support of the cause.
The team will also be collecting general donations and selling hot chocolate at the game.

 CHARLOTTE BOSS '24, WEEKEND WARRIOR Fifth grader Charlotte Boss ran in the O2X Summit Challenges mountain race on Saturday, September 27 at Sunday River in Maine. About 150 runners participated in both the single and double diamond races, which included conquering rugged terrain, ravines, and rock faces.
Charlotte ended up winning the singe diamond race for females 17 and under with a time of 1:36:54. The total elevation she ran which was 1,588' altitude (started at 990' and ended at 2,578'). We are very proud of Charlotte's courage and perseverance as she was the youngest participant!
DECKHANDS WITH DAN ZANES Members of the Deckhands Theatre Company were thrilled to serve as front of house staff at the Greenwich Odeum this past Saturday for the Dan Zanes Song Gusto Hour. Named by People magazine as "The Crown Prince of Contemporary Kids' Music," Dan Zanes offered a chance for families and people of all ages to gather and sing at the top of their lungs.
