LOWER SCHOOL PARENT COFFEE LECTURE SERIES
Tuesday, October 7 | 8:30-9:30 a.m. | Carriage House Library
Lecturer: Alison Anderson, MS
Social Cognition: What is it and how can it impact children?
This presentation will familiarize parents with the concept of social cognition and how deficits in this area impact a child's ability to successfully and independently manage the social, emotional, and academic demands of the classroom and the home. We will look at strategies that help support those students who struggle to solve social problems, self-regulate, understand multiple perspectives, and achieve social success.
Alison Anderson received a Master of Science in Speech and Language Pathology from California State University, East Bay in 2006. For six years, she worked at an independent school for children with learning differences, including social cognitive deficits. It was through this work on social pragmatics that Alison was introduced to a treatment framework called Social Thinking ® and brought it into the classroom for students and staff. In 2012, Alison started a private practice, which primarily focuses on serving children and young adults with social cognitive deficits. Her office is in Providence.
