Wolf Visit
Congressman Langevin visited campus to show his support for the Wolf Conservation Center (WCC) and Alyssa Grayson '19. Atka, the official ambassador of the center, impressed the audience with his beauty and speaker Maggie Howell shared the significant role wolves play in our ecosystem. If you want to learn more, visit the WCC website.
Host FamiliesIf you are interested in hosting an international student next year, please contact Catherine Washburn or Jacqui Yamada. Knowing that adding another teenager to your home could be a financial burden, international families have agreed to pay a monthly stipend to their host family. Jacqui and Cathy would be happy to answer any questions you might have about the program and the value of being a host parent.

Plastic Bag Ban
In honor of Earth Day, members of the Upper School Defenders group organized a campus-wide letter-writing campaign directed at the Rhode Island state government (in support of the state-wide plastic bag ban) and Dunkin Donuts (to encourage the company to reduce Styrofoam use and offer plastic recycling). Students in all three divisions participated and either signed a group letter, wrote their own letters, or contributed original drawings. The letters and artwork were submitted to the House and Senate committees on environmental issues, and will also be sent to Dunkin Donuts franchise owners and corporate headquarters. Congratulations Defenders!

Over 60,000 letters were submitted nationally, with 715 entries from Rhode Island for all three levels of competition. Of the 364 entries for Level 2, 84 semifinalist letters were selected by the Letters About Literature national team and returned to the RI Center for the Book for state judging.
Memory Box Project
Eighth-graders have been collaborating with Atria Harborhill residents on "The Memory Box Project." Harborhill is an assisted living community in East Greenwich. After choosing a favorite memory of an event or person in their life, the participants (both students and residents) were asked to depict this memory by decorating the inside of a box given to them. The project has been coming to fruition over the past few months, with several visits to the Harborhill community, during which students assisted the residents with decorating their boxes. "The Memory Box Project" will be displayed in the Atria Gallery at Harborhill from Thursday, May 23 through the first week of June.

Hasbro Trip
Fourth grade students traveled to Hasbro Toy Co. last Friday. The students, parents and some of the Hasbro legal staff attended a presentation by Taylor Cote '21 about "Furby". Attendees learned how a toy is developed, from first concept to the store shelves and everything in between. This was Taylor's independent project and she did a fantastic job! Students also enjoyed a tour of Hasbro's design and engineering departments and "Cake Mix," Hasbro's in-house studios where some of the toy commercials are shot and edited. A special thanks to Hasbro and Melissa Cote for setting this fun and educational trip up for Rocky Hill students.
