Behind the Scenes at Rocky Hill: A Parent Series - Getting the Big Picture
On December 5, a contingent of parents learned first-hand about the science curriculum. Senior Robert Petteruti gave an informative tour and summary from the student perspective, and faculty members from each division presented the scope and sequence of their programs. One parent noted, "I thought it was one of the best [meetings] I have attended at RHS in over six years!"
Save the date for the next installment, "Demystifying Harkness" presented by Mike Cappelletti, US English on Wednesday, January 9 at 8:15 AM.
Annual Fund Support
Parents, faculty, staff, trustees and alumni are working hard to raise awareness and funds for the Annual Fund. Each week, volunteers make calls to ask for support of this critical campaign that helps fund academics, arts, athletics, financial aid/scholarships and professional development. Thank you to all who have said yes and please answer the call for support when you see Rocky Hill is reaching out to you! Your participation at any level helps make big opportunities happen. You can also give online with our secure gift form or donate appreciated stocks by contacting Beth DeGerlia. Pledges are payable by June 30, 2013.

Dancing King
Brandon Morsilli '18 recently competed in the regional dance competition of the New York City Dance Alliance, one of the elite dance competitions in the nation. Brandon was competing for the first time at the teen level, which has dancers up to the age of 16. For this competition, Brandon had to learn 11 separate dance routines. Out of 500 dancers, Brandon was one of only five selected as a ballet scholarship recipient. This means that he can attend any of the NYCDA conventions tuition free and learn from some of the most renowned dance instructors in the country. Brandon has only been dancing for three years.
Community Connections
Recently, Matt Hill's sixth grade English class watched "Children in Foster Care." It is a serious and meaningful video and was intended to help students have some more context as they participated in the all-school community service project, during which they bought gifts for teens in foster care.
After the video was over, there was a class discussion and the students wrote reflections on what they learned, how they felt, and what they might think about as they shopped for gifts. Here are a few excerpts:
"I know that sometimes I would complain about some of the things that my parents decided for me, and even wished that they would be a little different than they are, just because I really couldn't get what I want, but after watching the video, I realized that I really had nothing to complain about, and I had it much better than they do...."
"The video made me feel lucky, because we don't really think about being thankful for having a family or some people that you can rely on. Having a stable home seems like nothing big, but to them it's what they really want...."
