Tuesday, April 2 marks twelve years of community, growth and evolution!

Happy Birthday Samarya!
This beautiful month we return to the concept of shaucha - the yogic principle of order, purity and cleanliness. As I think of shaucha today, on the eve of our twelve year anniversary, I think of the sense of order that comes from returning to our roots and simplifying our organizational structure. I am thrilled that we are still here, twelve long and sometimes really tough, years later, and that we are still moving forward courageously with our mission - to foster individual transformation as a means to radical social change. I am amazed and humbled to see all we have accomplished together, as individuals and as a community, and heartened by your continued dedication - to Samarya, to community, to yoga and to sharing our open hearts and minds ever more fully. Thank you!
For me, this year, this month, this round of shaucha, is all about getting back to where we started - offering more classes for kids with special needs, summer camps for all ages, returning to a business model that worked, encouraging community without so much emphasis on fund-raising, re-establishing community forums where you get to have a voice in what we do, creating our new non-profit Friends of The Samarya Center, building on our already substantial outreach and access programs, and even teaching a little ashtanga!
Join us in simplifying, organizing and focusing - join us in shaucha, join us in community! This is your yoga home, and there ain't no other place like it. Come home this month to Samarya!
And, as a special thanks, and special incentive -
from Tuesday, April 2, through Sunday, April 7,
bring a first time friend for free - as many first time friends as you like - if that friend buys any pass, both of you will get the pass for 50% off!
Samarya means community, and we are always serious about building ours! With this offer, students have the opportunity to introduce a friend to The Samarya Center, and get rewarded with a half price month pass.
It's simple! Bring a friend to The Samarya Center any time between today and Sunday (must be the friend's first time to Samarya). If your friend purchases any one month, ten visit or twenty visit pass before Sunday the 7th, both you and that friend will receive that pass at half price. (both people must buy their pass at the same time.)
This week only - round up your friends - share the gift of yoga and community, and both receive a half price off pass!
With love and light. ~ molly

One of the traditional ways of learning the sutras is simply to chant them and memorize them before ever even studying the meaning. In this 2-hour class, you will learn how to read chanting notations and fundamentals of Sanskrit pronunciation as we chant the Yoga Sutra of Patanjali.Chanting practice will build your focus, body awareness and neural pathways. And it's fun! It is said that we begin to integrate the meaning of the sutras through chanting them. Each session will build on the last, but will also include review, so it's okay if you haven't come to any previous sessions.
Saturdays 5/4, 6/22, 7/13, Noon -2pm
$20 for a single class / $50 for three

Surround yourself inside and out with the vibrations of Om, said to be the sound of creation or the sound of everything. We will chant Om together for an hour (it is easier than it might sound). This is a powerful meditation where Om washes away whatever thoughts and feelings might arise and brings us back into the present moment, anchored in sacred sound. Even though I call it meditation, you don't have to sit still or even sit up--this is accessible to everyone. We'll end with a short shavasana.
Sundays 5/12, 6/16 & 7/21, 4-5:15pm
$8 per person

Metta, or lovingkindess, is a meditation that the Buddha offered to people when they were afraid. It is a practice of inviting in safety, happiness, health and peace into our lives and the lives of others. Ahimsa, the first aspect of the 8 limbs of yoga, is non-violence. We can cultivate non-harming or non-violence in our lives by practicing compassion, or lovingkindness. In this compassion-cultivating workshop we will look into creating our own phrases for lovingkindness, putting it into a physical practice, and end with a guided meditation. No previous experience required (in yoga or in meditation), and all are welcome. Come with an open mind and heart! Suggested Reading: Lovingkindness by Sharon Salzberg .
Saturday, 6/1, 12:30-3:30pm
Registration is $35 if you register by 5/18 and $40 thereafter
