Weight Loss Hint--Drink To Shrink Your Belly

Vinegar: Secret To Faster Weight Loss
In a study, test subjects consumed a daily drink containing either one or two tablespoons of vinegar or a non-vinegar placebo. After 12 weeks, those who downed vinegar had a lower body weight, body mass index and waist circumference and less visceral fat. The researchers noted that the acetic acid in vinegar appears to help inhibit fat production. Swigging vinegar isn't necessary; instead, you can incorporate it into dressings and marinades.

Here's a dressing to try:

STRAWBERRY VINAIGRETTE

3-5 strawberries
1 T. apple cider vinegar
1 T. lemon juice
Stevia to taste
Dash of salt
Dash of cayenne (optional)
Puree all ingredients until smooth
Use on green salads
Garnish with fresh ground black pepper

Nutrition Hint--What Types Of Foods Contribute To Belly Fat?
Take the quiz:
What types of foods contribute to excess fat in the abdominal area?
(a) Foods high in monounsaturated fats, such as nuts, seeds and dark chocolate.
(b) Fried foods
(c) High protein foods
(d) All of the above

Answer: (b)
Fried foods often add unwanted inches to the abdominal area as the majority of their calories come from saturated fat. This type of fat is made from animal products and is also known to raise the level of cholesterol in the bloodstream. Therefore, fried foods are not only bad for your waistline but for the health of your heart as well. Foods high in monounsaturated fats are actually good for the abdominals if they are consumed in conservative portions. High protein foods speed up the metabolism and therefore help burn fat.

Metabolism Retraining Hint--Doing This Curbs The Appetite
For people who are obese and who have been sedentary, any amount of physical activity is beneficial, including walking, swimming, and water aerobics. But start out slowly and gradually increase the pace and duration of such activities. Low-intensity activities -- such as taking a short walk or raking leaves -- won't raise your resting energy expenditure as much as high-intensity activities will, but they have other advantages. For one thing, they help reduce body fat and build muscles -- and muscle burns more calories than fat does. Regular weightlifting also builds muscle and has a similar effect.

Another benefit of regular physical activity of any sort is that it temporarily curbs your appetite. Of course, many people joke that after a workout they feel extremely hungry -- and promptly indulge in a snack. But because exercise raises resting energy expenditure, people continue to burn calories at a relatively high rate. Therefore, a moderate post-exercise snack does not erase the benefits of exercise in helping people control their weight.
