Weight Loss Hint--What Do Cinnamon & Vinegar Have In Common?  

  

Looking to add some flavor to your food and non-caloric drinks? Forget the sugar; there are plenty of spices and flavors that will make your food both tastier and healthier. Vinegar, which has been shown to lower the glycemic index, (meaning you metabolize the food more slowly) adds acidic flavor to salad dressings, sauces and roasted veggies without a lot of calories.

 

For sweet-smelling warmth, add cinnamon to everything from coffee and smoothies to chili. Like vinegar, cinnamon slows the rate at which food transits from your stomach to your intestine-this keeps you full longer, and helps prevent the post-meal slump.

  

ORANGE CITRUS DRESSING

¼ c. apple cider vinegar 
2 T. fresh squeezed orange juice 
1 T. lemon juice- 
1 t. grated lemon or orange rind (zest) 
Stevia to taste 
¼ c. water 
1 t. sea salt 
1 t. pepper 
Mix well and store in refrigerator. 

  

 

Nutrition Hint--Protein Fuels Fat Burning      

It may be surprising, but it is a scientific fact that your body cannot effectively burn and use fat as energy if it doesn't have help from either carbohydrate or protein. As you are losing weight, your body loses both muscle and fat (I know, bummer!). During this process it is especially important that you continue to eat enough protein in your diet. Having adequate protein coming in from your food fuels fat burning while preserving calorie-burning lean muscle  

 

 

Metabolism Retraining Hint--Fact Or Fiction?

You can reduce fat in specific areas of the body, by doing exercises that target those particular body areas. 

 

Fiction!

 

On the face of it, that seems to make sense, but trying to burn fat in a precise spot where you want to lose it, simply doesn't work. The only way to burn fat is through exercise, expending more calories then you've ingested. And exercise burns fat gradually, and from all areas of the body simultaneously, not just around the muscles you're using. That doesn't mean that you shouldn't work the areas where you have extra fat though. Doing so will build muscle there, and that will give that area a more toned look, when the fat over the muscle is reduced.

      
   

Recipe of the Week--Jamaican Jerk Chicken 

Jamaican Jerk Chicken

Makes 2 servings
Can be had on any phase

¼ cup chopped white onions
25 ml cider vinegar
1 teaspoon allspice
1 teaspoon dried thyme
½ teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon sea salt
1 teaspoon ground cloves
8 oz chicken breast
Coarse sea salt


Combine the first 7 ingredients in a blender and puree to form a smooth, think paste. Using gloves rub the jerk seasoning onto both sides of the chicken breasts. Refrigerate and marinate overnight.


Preheat the grill to 400 degrees season each chicken breasts with coarse sea salt. Cook 5 to 7 minutes on each side until cooked through.
