Amazing Member Report--Susan Evans
I started on my wellness journey in July 2014 with Total Solutions at Delta Valley Athletic Club after being diagnosed as pre-diabetic. At that time, I suffered from migraines, nigh...t sweats, hot flashes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. In February, I participated in the 20/30 Fast Track and continued on to the Listen To Your Body (LTYB) phase. I have shed 56.8 lbs and continue to close in on my ultimate health goal. Today, I am no longer pre-diabetic and am off my migraine, blood pressure and cholesterol medications. Best of all, I no longer experience night sweats and hot flashes and my energy level is off the charts. Thank you Lisa Shanahan and DVAC Wellness Team for helping me take my life back!! http://2030fasttrack.com

Weight Loss Hint--Which Spice Is A Natural Appetite Suppressant?

Two Fall Spices For Weight Loss!

Nutmeg is low in sodium and cholesterol and high in fiber and manganese, which is a catalyst for breaking down fats and cholesterol-an important process for weight loss, Karen Langston, a certified nutritionist and board member of The National Association of Nutritional Professionals says.

Cinnamon is loaded with manganese, fiber, calcium, and iron, making it the perfect spice to add to your meals. It's also a natural appetite suppressant that decreases blood sugar, manages insulin, and revs up your metabolism. Experiment with different varieties of cinnamon: try Chinese cinnamon in meat rubs, Ceylon cinnamon with fruits, yogurt, or ice cream.

Nutrition Hint--Try Something You've Never Heard Of

Shake things up and create a little adventure with friends or family by trying a food that might seem weird and unusual to you. Consider trying prickly pear, jackfruit, teff, Job's tears, wheat berries, edamame, wakame seaweed, hemp hearts, turmeric, walnut oil, or salmon jerky. And remember, the uncommon can become common. It is funny to think that in the early 1950s, bananas were a weird and wonderful new food to most North Americans.

Metabolism Retraining Hint--Can Alleviating Depression Symptoms Be as Simple as This?

Depressed people can alleviate their symptoms by as much as 47 percent with regular aerobic exercise.   In one study, a group of depressed people who performed moderately intense aerobic exercises at least three times a week "experienced a decline in depressive symptoms by an average of 47 percent after 12 weeks." Another group of depressed people performed low-intensity aerobics at least three times weekly; their symptoms improved by 30 percent. "Exercise isn't just about working off energy. It's about turning on the brain," says Harvard psychiatry professor John Ratey, author of Spark: The Revolutionary Science of Exercise And The Brain.
