The United States is truly a diverse nation made up of dynamic people. Each year on July 4, Americans celebrate that freedom and independence with barbecues, picnics, and family gatherings. Through the Internet we are learning about and communicating with people of different nations, with different languages and different races throughout the world. Bringing the world closer with understanding and knowledge can only benefit all nations.

Multitasking while you eat means you won't be as satisfied, a recent study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition
found. Some of the study's participants ate while playing computer solitaire, while others ate without distraction. The results? The game-players were worse at remembering what they had eaten-and felt significantly hungrier afterward.

Nutrition Hint--Smooth Those Ice Cream Cravings Over With This
Eat homemade fruit smoothies instead of ice cream.
It's tempting to eat some foods during the summer that really don't offer the best nutrition for you. Ice cream is a terrific example of a summer food like this. Learn to make substitutions so that you're eating foods that are just as refreshing but a lot healthier for you. Substituting fruit smoothie (made from milk, yogurt, ice and fresh fruit) for your ice cream is a great example of how to do this. One of my favorite smoothie recipes is to blend half a frozen banana with a handful of fresh cherries and 1/2 cup plain yogurt. Delicious and no guilt like when I hit the local ice cream parlor.
But please avoid restaurant or commercial smoothies!
Commercial smoothies may just be fat traps in disguise.
Why?
Most commercial smoothies have an ice cream base and are filled with added sugar.
They also top the charts when it comes to calories, which could lead to excess fat gain - especially if you maintain your normal calorie intake.
And with the added sugar (from the ice cream and other additions) this could cause some pretty crazy spikes in your blood sugar.
This could intensify your cravings for junk food, may cause inflammation, and could lead to most of the sugar being stored as fat.

Metabolism Retraining Hint--Get Creative
Summer schedule got you too tied up to take time for yourself? Get creative. Too busy for fitness? Change your social and eating habits to promote healthy lifestyle changes. Instead of eating a heavy lunch, pack a lunch and go for a walk. You can sip on a protein drink or snack on fruit while enjoying a nice brisk walk to break up your stressful work day. You will feel refreshed and more invigorated for your afternoon tasks.

Recipe of the Week--Strawberry Whip
1 package T&H strawberry-banana gelatin supplement
1 cup (8 ounces) fat-free vanilla yogurt
1 cup boiling water
2/3 cups cold water
1 cup fresh strawberries divided
In a mixing bowl, dissolve gelatin in boiling water. Stir in cold water. Cover and refrigerate until partially set; about 30-45 minutes. Add yogurt. Beat on medium speed until light and foamy, about 2-3 minutes. Refrigerate for 15-minutes.
Divide 2/3 cups strawberries among six dessert dishes. Top each with about ½ cup gelatin mixture and remaining strawberries. Refrigerate until serving.
Serves: 6 Fat grams: less than 1
Phase: Fast, 1, 2, 3, 4 Protein: 7.6
You may substitute strawberry gelatin in place of T&H supplement, although best results are achieved using supplements.

Veggie Dip
8 oz FF Sour Cream
2 Cream of Vegetable Supplements
1/2 tsp. Mrs. Dash Lemon Pepper (or favorite Mrs.. Dash flavor)
optional Dill to taste
Servings: 8
Mix Ingredients together. Chill for an hour. Use 2 T for dip.
Phase: Any
Mexican Dip
8 oz FF Sour Cream
8 oz FF Cream Cheese
4 Italian Tomato Supplement
1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
1/2 tsp Onion Powder
1/2 tsp Chili Powder
Servings: 16
Mix ingredients together. Chill for an hour. Use 2 T for dip.
Phase: Any

Mexican Veggie Pizza

Mexican Dip recipe
8 oz. FF Cheddar Cheese, Shredded
1-2 Cups Broccoli florets
1 Cup Shredded Carrots
1 Cup Chopped Red or Green Peppers
1 Cup Sliced Green Onions
Servings: 8
Spread Dip on baked crust. Sprinkle Veggies over spread. Sprinkle Shredded Cheese. Chill for one hour.
Phase: 2, 3, or 4
